As most of you know, that have ever read my BBs,  understand that I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer.  My heart is bigger than my head.  So bare with me…

I’m in the University City Kiwanis and we recently had a guest speaker tell us of a program that helps ex-cons get back in the workforce.  The director told us about tough love and how she and her co-workers only help those that want to be helped.  There are all types that sign up for the program, but only those that are serious about helping themselves will actually make it.  The program helps the enrollees learn the basic common knowledge, like showing up on time, if you’re not early, you’re late. If you’re late, they ask you to leave because you are not ready to work.  If you come in underdressed for a workshop then, you’re not ready to work.  Once you’ve proven you’re ready, they work on eye contact, hand shakes, resumes, even interviews.  The next step is the actual interview.  The men dress in donated suits, shirts, belts, and shoes,, all the things needed to present a professional image.

This is where the PAX come in,  we’ve all taken a bigger step by committing to work out in the gloom and as a result “look” better for it, mostly.  April is here and that means spring cleaning.  Please take some time to go through your closet this weekend and consider donating older, bigger suits, dress shirts, belts, even shoes to STRIVE NC.

“STRIVE is a nationally recognized Job Readiness and Attitudinal Training Program in which the ‘hardest to employ’ are taught the necessary skills to become productive members of society”.

A couple of options to give…. DM me to arrange a meeting and I’ll be glad to pick up said items.  The other is to donate the items yourself to, Life of NC dba Strive NC, 600 W 3rd St.  Greenville.

I’m sure we all donate old clothes from time it time, this is an opportunity to help people interview for jobs and become productive members for our society!  The clothes stay with Strive and are used for other participants in the program, so it is the gift that keeps on giving!

I am,

Past Due (get it)?
