Circuit Rider said he needed some men to step up and Q, so YHC jumped right in. Already was Q on Monday at #Mash, so why not finish the work week where I started! The Coop Stronghold ! As I prepare myself for Sasquatch, I decided to come up with this simulation of a 10 minute workout, followed by 1.5 miles. Then another 10 minute workout, followed by a mile.  This would give the PAX a feel for the Sasquatch as well as going up Charles Blvd, which is part of the route to the EB Aycock Schoolyard.

Gamecock picked me up and we arrived a little late for a Q…..but still 3-4 minutes before 5:30.

Warmup

No warm up and YHC forgot to ask if we had any FNG’s……..and we had one!  More on that later. As we walked from shovel flag over to the top of the driveway hill, YHC explained the plan to the PAX.

The Thang

11’s on the Driveway Hill

  • Mountain Climbers
  • Imperial Walker Squats

About 2 or 3 reps in, Glow Worm informed YHC that he had forgotten to give disclaimer for FNG. YHC introduced himself to our FNG and gave disclaimer at the top of the hill. YHC is obviously not a professional.

Time to RUN……….even Charlie Brown was a runner today! Down Ficklen Drive, LEFT on Charles Blvd. and run UP to Greenville Blvd. Turn LEFT and then turn LEFT again on Rosewood Drive. Finish at Elmhurst behind the ECU Scoreboard.  Ran back for the six aka Charlie Brown, who made the run under the 12 minute pace (Sasquatch rules). Good job Brother!

Introduced our new FNG to Jack Webb. Had a rough start with the math, but we managed to get in enough Merkins and push enough air that left everyone feeling it.

Final RUN………circle around the Elmhurst tailgate path, cross over to Minges lot, and run down toward Charles and back to shovel flag. Didn’t quite have time for the mile, but that’s because the Q talked too much before he released the hounds! CoopMile crew joined us and helped bring us home down the stretch.

Moleskin

When you prepare for something like Sasquatch, I think it’s important to have a mental understanding of what you are taking on. Today’s workout helped some PAX get a feel for several things: first, running UP Charles Blvd, which they will do on the way to EB Aycock.  Second was feeling the 10 minute workout, run 1.5, followed by another 10 minute workout, followed by another run of probably .75 mile.  This gave us a feel for what the middle portion of Sasquatch will be like……of course we were missing another 10 min workout and 1.5 mile run.  Third was that Charlie Brown pushed himself today and probably got a little out of his comfort zone running the 1.5 mile stretch. He admittedly walked some then resumed his run.  I did the same thing the other day at The Commons on Sunday morning.

See, I don’t consider myself a runner.  I look at PAX like Tiny Dancer, Abu, Tonka, Gazelle, Footloose, String Bean…….those guys kill it. I feel lucky to keep my 10 minute per mile pace. But preparing myself for The Sasquatch gets me out of my comfort zone. It helps me grow. At the Commons on Sunday I pushed myself through 5 miles.  Had to walk a couple times and resume….but T-Bone and Wimpie stayed with me and pulled me along.  Gamecock used to coach my oldest son in football and often said to his players “Boys, there are HITTERS and HITTEES…….which one are you going to be!! “.

Well in F3 there are pullers and pullees……and sometimes that changes from workout to workout.  That’s why it’s important to attend workouts you don’t normally go to. To see new FNG’s and men just starting F3. If you find yourself injured or nursing an injury……look at it as an opportunity to come out and go SLOW.  Be in the back of the pack. Help encourage someone else.

Right now there are about 70 men signed up for The Sasquatch. I feel like there will be more over the next week.  I might be last…….but I will finish. If you are on the fence……get off the fence.  The Sasquatch is a CSAUP event (Completely Stupid and Utterly Pointless). It’s not supposed to be easy. It’s supposed to push you out of your comfort zone. But you will not be alone! Your Brothers of F3 will pull you through.
