We started out with a nice slow jog around the perimeter of Dowdy Ficklin Stadium. The 52 Card Pick up consisted of 4 exercises, utilizing a deck of cards to dictate what exercise will be done and the number of reps to completed. Each exercise is assigned to a suit. Push-ups were Hearts, WW1’s were Diamonds, Air Squats were Spades, and Calf Extensions were Clubs.  The number/face card that was on the suit constituted the reps for the assigned exercise. Example, Jacks were 11 reps, Queens were 12 reps, Kings were 13 reps, and Aces were 14 reps. If the dealer (The Q) draws a 10 of hearts, the group performs 10 Push-Ups. No less than 6 reps would be conducted regardless if the dealer turned over a card valued at 5 or below. With the deck shuffled, your body doesn’t settle in to one exercise or number of reps. It is always changing. When the final card was complete, a total of 108 reps per exercise (432 total) had been executed. Following the last card, the group once again ran around the perimeter of Dowdy Ficklin Stadium. Between the two jogs around the stadium, I believe that totaled somewhere around 1 mile. I have not measured it, but I assume its close. Regardless, the run was still good for all that participated.

I really like this workout because it is quick and simple. I travel a lot for work. I don’t always have an opportunity to go to a gym or run for that matter. Even if I don’t have a deck of cards, I can always come up with 4 exercises that I can do. I personally like doing whole body with this kind of workout. The deck of cards just kind of makes it a game in a way. I typically try to get 100 reps per exercise, sometimes more. It does not seem like much. However, If the exercise is done slow and correctly, you will get something out of it.
