The bearded one hit me up via the twitter machine a couple weeks ago about Qing at Ruck Ready and mentioned the possibility of incorporating some of the Heavy Drop Training that some others and myself are currently attempting. Well the mantra of Heavy Drop Training is “No one cares what you can do fresh” so I tried to incorporate this into the workout plan. YHC arrived at 0440 with Bono, Jock Itch, The Closed Hand and Cousteau to do a HDT workout. While a large group got in an EC ruck (participants unknown). We all convened back at the flag for the main event.

5:15 arrived and we all got started. Since YHC knew the majority of the pax were already warm we skipped the warmup and just got right to it.

We started off with a series of exercises to gauge how they felt fresh, to keep with the mantra these were to be revisited.

Ruck Curls x 10 IC

Merkins x 10 IC

High Pull x 10 IC

Mountain Climbers x 20 IC

Overhead ruck press x 20 IC

Burpees x 10 OYO

After this we gathered our coupons:

Liter with 200 lbs of sandbags

2 ammo cans

4 60 Lb sandbags

We took the path around and through the woods to the back soccer field. We attempted a bearcrawl drag centipede. This worked ok but wasnt’ getting the results that YHC was looking for so we moved on. We circled up and completed ruck squats x 20 IC and Ruck lunges x 20 IC. Then YHC introduced Jeeps and Tanks to the pax, courtesy of Cadre Heath. In this exercise pax walk in a squat in a circle while calling out “beep beep im a jeep” or “clank clank Im a tank”. When saying im a jeep rucks on the pax front and when saying im a tank rucks held out in front. All while keeping in a squat position. This went on for 3 revolutions and YHC felt we had enough so we moved back to our coupons and continued down the path back in to the woods and continued till reaching the concession stand, no worries there were no concessions. Here we alternated holding rucks out in front or holding them overhead. Additionally we alternated holding in standing or holding in a peoples chair position (sans wall).

After retrieving our coupons we continued on the path around to the gravel parking lot where we would check the difference between fresh and with a little fatigue. Once in the parking lot we dropped coupons and completed the following (not without complaints about rocks and soft hands)

Ruck Curls x 10 IC

Merkins x 10 IC

High Pull x 10 IC

Mountain Climbers x 20 IC

Due to the growing complaints of rocks we grabbed our coupons and rucked to the back parking lot where we did the remaining exercises

Overhead press x 20 IC

Burpees x 10 OYO

Time was running short so we grabbed our coupons and returned to the flag for a quick round of Mary including:

Flutter Kicks with Ruck overhead x 50 IC

Hello Dolly x 20 IC

6:15 Arrived and we counted off.

If pax have attend ruck ready more than 2 times they are elligible to Q and need to get with Bearded Jester

As always thanks for the opportunity to Q and let me lead a great group of pax. When looking at this workout it only gives a glimpse of the challenge that occurs when you aren’t fresh. With that when preparing for a CSUP event that is something that you have to take into account as you will only be fresh once but you have to find a way to push through being tired, sore, wet or any multitude of things that come into your mind and cause you to question your self and begin to think “I can’t continue”. As David Goggins states on occasion “you have to condition your mind” so when your mind says stop you can push your body to another level and succeed. Simply DFQ and you can do things that you didn’t think were possible.

Ma Bell Out!!
