BJ reached out to YHC the other week about Qing at #RuckReady in the coming weeks. Always willing to help out with Qing as I know sometimes it is difficult as a site Q to find Qs each week. BJ is always willing to Q so I jumped at the chance to help this #HIM out. After I committed though, I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive as it was going to be my first Q at #RuckReady. I did not know if I could prepare a beatdown worthy of some of the Ruck OGs like Bono, MaBell, Jock, Pied, BJ, etc.

During a workout last week, Haavaad and I were talking as he had the Q at #116. We decided to tackle the GoRuck August Rucking Challenge, Guerrilla Ops, which focused on the Special Forces soldiers who served in Vietnam. At #116, we were able to knock out two of the 4 workouts so that left two for us at #RuckReady.

Good amount of PAX met for a little EC at 0440; YHC, Joker, BJ, Skynyrd, Patch, Tip, Ratched and Pied Piper. Met at the flag close to 0515 with a total of 11 PAX ready to take on Guerrilla. Grabbed some sandbags and large rocks along the way and rucked our way to the back soccer field for the beatdown to begin.

First workout was going to be The Hammer Workout. PAX would partner-up and complete the following (each partner doing half the reps);

  • 400M sandbag/rock carry
  • 300 ruck swings
  • 300 sit-ups (no ruck)
  • 200 lunges
  • 200 overhead shoulder press
  • 400M sandbag/rock carry

We stayed on the soccer field for the next workout which was the Mata Mile. Partner A would run/mosey 400M with ruck on while Partner B would perform a series of exercises until partner A returned. Partners would flapjack, basically having each PAX run/mosey 1600M. The following exercises were performed with the ruck on;

  • Ruck squats
  • Plank hold
  • Lunges
  • Flutter kicks

The last part of the workout was a 1 mile team ruck while alternating the sandbag/rock between partners. This took us right up to 0615 so back to flag

Enjoyed the workout and glad we were able to knock it all out in the time we had. Hopefully all PAX got a little work during the beatdown and earned their Guerrilla Ops patch! For YHC personally, this was all about stepping out of my comfort zone and doing something new. I can Q a boot camp all day long but the fear of the unknown Qing this ruck-focused workout was a bit different but at the end of the day, with the support of your brothers in the gloom, anything can be accomplished!
