Today was Pothole’s first Monday as Site Q of The Collard Patch. YHC knows it is in good hands. When YHC saw Rafiki make the announcement about the changeover, and the request for Q’s, YHC messaged Pothole right away. Pothole picked Opening Day, and YHC jumped on it. Little did YHC realize… YHC’s first GoRuck Event was this past weekend. Still sore from it, YHC pushed through and came up with a good one, that went something like this:

Warm Up

YHC was introduced to the “Slaughter Starter” by Grammar a few weeks ago at The School Yard and thought it was a killer way to get the blood pumping. YHC asked the group if they knew what a Slaughter Starter was… a few chuckles were heard, but no one spoke up. YHC asked Grammar to explain the Slaughter Starter. He explained that it was 20 burpees OYO, right at the start of a workout. YHC heard some sighs and knew no one was looking forward to that. But today was the PAX’s lucky day. This was just an informative exercise, to let everyone know what a Slaughter Starter was. YHC told the PAX that we weren’t going to do that… multiple sighs of relief were heard… then we go right into:

  • SSH – 10 – IC
  • Merkins – 10 – IC
  • Collard Pickers – 10 – IC
  • 8-count Man Makers – 5 – IC
  • Lap around the track

Tha Thang

After the lap, we moseyed over to the picnic shelter for 2 rounds of 7’s.

  • 1st round: Squats/Derkins (this is where Rafiki got confused and started doing Dips instead of Derkins)
  • 2nd round: Dips/WWII’s

Next, we moseyed to the rock pile, to grab a “largish” rock and head to the football field. YHC had the PAX partner up, and line up shoulder to shoulder across the end zone, facing the opposite end of the football field. YHC instructed that Partner 1, would start doing 2 lunges, then a squat (with the rock), while partner 2 would start bearcrawling (without the rock). One rock would be left in the end zone by each pair. Once Partner 2 reached the end zone, he would then turn around and run back to meet up with Partner 1, then flapjack. We would keep flapjacking until both partners reached the opposite end zone together.

Once all PAX made it to the end zone, we then completed 5 more 8-count man makers, In cadence. Then rinse and repeat back to the original start point, only this time we ran instead of bearcrawled.

Once completed, YHC instructed all PAX to circle up with their rock for some rock exercises.

  • Overhead press – 10 – IC
  • Squats – 10 – IC
  • Curls for the girls – 10 – IC
  • Rinse and repeat, except with 14 curls since Cousin IT wanted to do more reps

Return the rocks back to the pile. and mosey towards the flag. YHC instructed the PAX to go near the flag, and this started some mumblechatter as some had different definitions of what “near” meant.  YHC instructed the PAX to get in one line, shoulder to shoulder, facing the playground. We were going to do 200 cumulative merkins, one by one as each PAX keeps the count (all are holding plank, first person does a merkin and says “One”, second person then does a merkin sand says “two”… etc). YHC heard the mention of sand spurs, and since YHC is a nice guy, we moved to the concrete path to do the merkins. 200 total merkins completed.

Since we had a little time left, YHC decided to take something else that he learned from the GoRuck event over the weekend, and had the PAX mosey to the pull up area at the playgound. We would line up in two lines, and each side would have to complete 100 pull ups as a group. First person in line would go to failure, then drop and move to the back of the line while the next person started pull ups.  Captain Obvious and Pothole could really crank out some pull ups, which worked in the other PAX favor.

Once completed, we went back and circled up by the flag for:

  • 40 Merkins
  • 17 WWII’s
  • Various Mary Exercises – The Edge, J Los, Freddy Mercs, Grave Diggers

Moleskin

I was a lot more sore than expected after the GoRuck Light over the weekend. So I was a little worried about how I would feel during this Q, but after the warm up I was good to go. I wanted to introduce a few of the things we did at the event during this Q, like the 200 merkins and 100 pull ups. And of course, I love a good bear crawl. I hope the PAX got their money’s worth this morning .Until next time…

Chimi Out!
