Hills represent the challenges we face in life.  If we always train in the flats and then try to race in the hills, we find ourselves sorely lacking (pun intended) the physical and mental fortitude to succeed.  So we endure hills on purpose, so that when we encounter them later, we are ready.  Also, it’s not just about us as individuals.  When we are at the top of the hill, it is our duty and honor to go back and help others up and over.

The Thang: Thick fog enveloped the shovel flags in the misty gloom.  After 5 Good Mornings, the Ruck Stars went their merry way, and the runners headed down 1st St to Library for the first hill.  For each hill, the faster PAX would climb to the top and then return for the 6.  At the top of Library, we turned left on 5th St. then right on Maple to 10th and on to College Hill.  From there, we took 14th to Evans, then left on 10th to get the new overpass.  We cut right on Myrtle and left on Albemarle Ave. and then right on 3rd St for that marvelous climb.  Left on Greene and back to the AO.  We spent the last 10 minutes sprinting up the boat ramp and moseying down before rendezvousing with the Ruckers.  Thanks to The End for encouraging me to VQ.  Congrats to Base Burglar for a mileage PB of 6.7 miles!
