On Tuesday I was asked by Pied Piper if I could Q the Good Fight. I have to admit, I was reluctant. Mainly because I would have to do a Backblast. I am horrible at getting them done under a month and I know without doubt, I am gonna hear it from Cousin IT. However, the Backblast are important. Helpful for any F3 member. Thanks to Mayhem doing my last Backblast, I was only a week late. I was out of town training with very limited internet access. I know, excuses, excuses. I should have done it the day of. I am sure Cousin IT was shaking his head when he heard I was gonna be the Q again. So Cousin IT, this one is on time, just for you.

As usual, I waited until the last minute to plan the workout. I was stressing because I am a little prideful and want to produce a challenging workout. So I sat down with a sharpie, printer paper (I probably should get a dry erase board. Its much easier for the group to read when is dark outside), my thoughts, and a glass of merlot from a fine Food Lion box of wine. The wine made me a bit ambitious.

As I started with my intro, everyone seemed upbeat. When I began to breakdown the workout, they didn’t seem so upbeat. Especially when I heard Shrimp utter “oh man” in that good ol’ boy accent of his while shaking his head. He assumed something I didn’t while I was drinking that fine wine. I believe he thought there was no way we would finish the workout before 6:15. He was right. We didn’t finish everything.

We begin the workout. My blood was flowing, sweat dripping, heart pounding, alot. I got to thinking when I looked at my watch and saw that it was 5:55am when I was only at round 8. I realized then I wasn’t gonna finish. So like any good QB or Q, I called OMAHA.. I audibled and changed my plan. 6:15 was quickly approaching. I know the gang was disappointed. I could see it in their eyes. I know each man there could do it, as long as we had another 45 minutes to spare. It just wasn’t meant to be. However, I am confident no one felt cheated. We left it all under the shelter on the tables and concrete. No regrets.

But we still crushed it. It didn’t matter if you pushed a 10lbs (Joker) or 45lbs (Me) . That was because Joker didn’t have any weights. He had no choice. I loaned him what I had on hand. Chestnut’s KB. That’s my 2.0. He was sleeping at home. Joker was lucky. If it had been Tonka as the Q, he would have gotten a 50lb. I know first hand. Nobody wants to trade when you have the 50. But, no one wants to trade when you have the 10 either. The 45 I pushed was not much better than the 50. It sucked too. But I have been too cheap to by a smaller one. So I use the free one from my work gym. Regardless of who pushed what, we ALL worked hard and had great fellowship. I enjoyed the opportunity to lead The Good Fight.

The Workout

Each exercise (Two Hand Kettlebell Swings; Alternating Leg Lunges w/ KB; Push-Ups; Single Arm Rows; Mountain Climbers; Single Arm Press; WWI’s; Goblet Squat) was to be conducted utilizing a pyramid format at the individuals own pace. You do each exercise in order for 10 rounds. Round 1 consist of 1 rep. Round 2 consist of 2 reps. This pyramid pattern continued until the individual reached the 10th round for 10 reps, capped with a 200 meter run. I initially had planned to go the opposite direction for 10 rounds(10 reps to 1 rep) after finishing the initial 10 rounds. Run again. Then complete a pull up pyramid, capped with, you guessed it, another run. The wine was really working the brain.

For time management, we only did the first 10 rounds and capped it with a 200 meter run. The run was followed with pyramid Pull-Ups (Palms facing Forward; Palms Facing Rear). This pyramid was also to 10 round format per Pull Up type. You do each Pull-Up for 5 rounds. Round 1 consist of 1 rep. Round 2 consist of 2 reps. After completing the 5th round, you reverse the reps for another 5 rounds. After completing all rounds for the Pull-Ups, We finished with a 200 meter run.

Prayer request

Cable- Starting college at Pitt CC this fall. Considering Mayhem did so well writing my Backblast a few weeks ago, I may need his help with homework!

Unmentioned Request- If I left something out, my apologies.

Praise

Gang Star- had a biopsy conducted and the results were benign. He is also missing a 25lb KB from about 2 weeks ago at The Good Fight. If you read this and know something about it, please say something.

Closing

I have been a Q a handful of times since joining F3 in October (thanks Joker for scooping me up at BLP). You might be reluctant to lead. I admit that I don’t step up and lead as often as I should. I encourage anyone to step up and lead in some way. Even if its saying something encouraging to you buddy who is tired. At a minimum, post. You may not execute perfect form, you may not be the fastest runner, you may not be the strongest, You may not be as ripped as ABU, you may not understand all the terminology, you may not know everyone in attendance, you may not own a shovel flag (even if you have been apart of F3 for almost a year), or you may not submit a backblast under a month following your Q. But you will be better for doing it, regardless of how you do it. Me and my 2.0 (mostly my 2.0 Chestnut) may be lazy and not get out of bed in time each day. I may be out of town and unable to get to a post somewhere. When I miss it, it is a void in my day. I feel like I let someone down. Maybe that is just me. I feed off you guys. Me and Chestnut are blessed to be a part of such a great organization. See you at the next Post!
