Well it’s been a long time since I’ve Q’d and I knew it was only a matter of time before I got head-locked. LOL!! But since this is running I figured coming up with a route in my hood wouldn’t be too big a deal. Winding down for BRR this weekend made it a simple 5 mile easy pace for everyone. I just finished up the Iron Mountain 40 mile Trail Run in Damascus, VA and I was unsure whether I was going to be able to post at all. However, my legs were tired, but they felt okay enough to lead the Pax through a tour of the local hood.

The Thang

Eight Pax started out from the flag and headed down Division St. and took a left on Church St., then a left on Laurie Ellis Rd. and another short left onto Barefoot Ln. The Pax were able to keep pretty tight given we all had tired legs leading up from weeks and weeks of training. I think everyone was okay with an easy pace even though it was still tough for me to hold just under a 9:00/min mile. Since we are all tapering no one wanted to get hurt.

Coming down Barefoot Ln., we took a right on to Lafollette Dr. and rounded the corner with a left on to Ellis Landing Ln. This took us back out to Laurie Ellis Rd. where we took another left onto the sidewalk for one of the darker stretches of the run. This is where headlamps and full viz gear were put to the test all the way to Old Tar Rd. as we battled the fog. We turned back at the stop sign to pick up the six although they were not far behind. A left on Old Tar Rd. and another left on Bayberry Ln. as we zig-zagged our way through this well lit neighborhood.

Another left on Rosewood Dr., then a quick left onto Primrose Ln. as we began heading back out to Ange St. About mid-way we turned around for the six as the Pax were starting to feel the miles. As we came up to Ange St., Noonan, Cousin-IT and myself decided to go the longer route towards Cooper St. and back up Church St. while the others headed back to the flag. Several of us decide to push for the full 5 miles in and around the park. For some reason Garmin did not count the full 5 miles that was plotted out for the course.

Since the time is changing and safety equipment is needed (including headlamps) this was a good time to do a gear check and test for BRR as Noonan found out his headlamp was malfunctioning. We definitely don’t want to find that out at 1:00am in the mountains. Let’s get Mountain Goat ready and be safe wherever you’re running!!!
