Monday morning I was sitting on the couch waiting to go to the doctor to have a medical procedure no one likes to talk about, when I get a text from Shake and bake.  Can you Q, Footloose can’t make it? Sure, went to map my run and had a easy 5 mile course and a shortcut if needed.  First thing I hear from The Hot Spot, “Floater, don’t screw this up!”

“Its 5:30 there is a shortcut on Vernon Rd if needed it let’s go.”  Probably not enough communication to start. We are headed down Laurie Ellis and I tell Shake and bake and one other PAX we are going to make a U turn at Tar Rd and pick up the six. I turn Fruity and Soul Train around before Tar Rd. and tell them we are turning right on Ange.  I run back to the rest of the pack and they are no where in sight!!!  I’m like a mother who has lost her kids in Walmart.  So I run back to the two I can see.  I turn them around hoping to see nox gear and headlamps, still nothing.  So we turn back again and head to the flag.

The main pack took a left on old Tar and made a big loop back to the flag. I felt comfortable that they knew the way home. Later I learn The Hot Spot had to check his gps to get back.

I expected to get a lot of grief but the PAX were kind this morning. Fortunately all seemed to get their mileage in this morning.  Lesson learned, communicate more at the start and have the fast guys come back for the six more often.

Prayers:

Half-Pipe’s wife is hopeful the next interview lands a job. Half-Pipe’s back. Those running  Ironclad and Medoc this weekend. The 100 man dinner.
