I want to start this Backblast with a challenge to @F3ENC. @F3Washington challenges all @F3ENC PAX members to an Indian Run Convergence Race. Details as we go…

On April 20th, @F3Washington hopes to field 3 teams to participate in the 1st annual Peter’s Run 5K race, who’s proceeds go to support Project Empty Tomb. The teams will be running the 5K as a tribe of five and will participate in the Indian Run Challenge. Today, we began to train.

Pax was instructed to bring their Ruck Sacks to the workout.

The event started at 5:15. Temperature at the start time was 24 degrees. Pax was also instructed beforehand to not to be afraid of the cold, that the workout would heat you up. This turned out to be true, as we sweated the cold away.

There was no circle up for warm-ups. Strapped on the Ruck Sack and begin.

Pax started the Indian Run training with a Tempo Ruck. App “RunDouble” called the ruck. (note: Largemouth took issue with the female voice of instruction)

• 5-minute Warm-up
• 8 Repetitions of 60 Second Running and 90 Second Brisk Walking
• 5-minute cool-down walk

Total Tempo Ruck covered 2 miles and ended back at the flags.

After shedding the ruck sacks, Pax, then took off on a competitive run. Feeling light on our feet after losing the extra weight, Pax covered about 1.5 miles.

Pax entered the Circle of Trust to conduct Counterama, Namerama, Announcearama, and heard the prayer request of the day. There wasn’t much mumble chatter during the circle. Pax had been beatdown from the workout. Need more training.

Pax was given instruction from Q (Cornhole) on how to sign-up for the Indian Run. RunTheEast.com will be managing the race. Go to that site and click on the “Races” link. Go the April 20th races and locate “The Bryant Mile and Peter’s Run”. Click on the “F3 Indian Run” and register there. Cost is $30 and if you use the coupon code “F3”, you will save $3 per registrant.

Here is an article on the 5K event (Project Empty Tomb) that will be appearing the April Community OFWB Magazine.

Project Empty Tomb

In Matthew 25, we find the parable of the sheep and the goats. The scene Matthew paints for us is Jesus teaching his gathered disciples while sitting on the Mount of Olives.

Earlier, in Chapter 23, Jesus had just called out the Pharisees at the temple for being hypocrites. He accused them of “shutting the door of the kingdom of Heaven in the people’s faces” while also calling them snakes and a brood of vipers!

In the two contrasting chapters, we see the things we are not to be, and we see the things we are to be. Jesus told the disciples that it is proper in God’s eyes to look after those that are the least amongst us. We read in Matthew 25:37-40 (NIV):

37“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

In August 2017, The Rose of Sharon Laymen’s League took Jesus up on his words and voted to organize something for our Church and our Community called “Project Empty Tomb”.

The Laymen also voted to work this project in memory of Pastor Bryant Hines. Pastor Hines had unexpectedly passed away a little less than a month earlier on July 20th, 2017.

When we voted, not only were Jesus’ words on our hearts, but we also remembered what Pastor Hines had to say on the matter of helping those that are less fortunate. It was rare if you heard a sermon from Pastor that did not include the needs in our community and our called responsibility as local Christians to see after those needs.

Project Empty Tomb has two goals. First, is to draw attention to that Empty Tomb. That fact has power, the power to turn non-believers into believers. If not immediately, it has the power to start the conversation with those who are not awake. Maybe they will ask themselves, “what happened at that tomb”?

Luke tells us in Chapter 24 that Peter was in disbelief when he heard the news that Jesus was alive. So much so, he got up and ran to the tomb only to find it empty. Before the run, it all seemed like nonsense. After the run, we are told “he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.”
The second goal is serving as directed in Matthew 25:40. To do for the least of those amongst us.

On April 20, 2019, the day before Easter, The Rose of Sharon Church will work to obtain these two goals as we host two events simultaneously in Bear Grass NC.

The first event is “Peter’s Run 5K Race” named after our beloved disciple, Peter. Let us also take note and give credit to the winner of that first Easter race. In John’s recounting of the event, Peter was beaten soundly by “the one Jesus loved”.

Peter’s Run 5K race will be for runners that enjoy the spirit of competition. We will recognize the winners in all age groups for both men and women.

The second event, that will take off five minutes after the starting gun for the 5K is an event named after and in memory of our beloved Pastor, “The Bryant Mile”. Participants will walk one mile in support of the Project.

Pastor loved to take his church members on field trips. And if we were on one of his trips, we knew he always would find a way to end those trips with a quick stop at Krispy Kreme. We will take note of this habit during the walk as the participants will stop and eat a donut at the halfway point.

The profit from this fundraiser will go to aid Project Empty Tomb which help meet the needs of our local food pantry and the ROS bookbag program. It is also our hope that the success of this fundraiser will enable us to help others in need in our community and our world. Wherever God sees the need.

If you would like to participate, it is easy. RunTheEast.com is managing these events. Go to that site and click the “Races” link. Peter’s Run 5K and The Bryant Mile will be listed at the April 20th date. Directions from there are easy.

If you sign-up to participate, be sure to use the coupon code OFWB to receive a $3 discount. There is also a place you can donate if you cannot join us for the event.

If you have more questions, contact me at jerrywcornwell@gmail.com or call 252-799-7865.

God bless you all.
