Today was a much needed #Convergence for @F3ENC as we held a 2.0 friendly Ultimate Football workout at Boyd Lee Park. With 27 participants, I immediately knew the game would be hard fought and real estate to show off my moves, seen by most only on a Playstation or XBox, would be tough to come by.

The Thang

Breaking out into teams, with one team wearing bright red bandanas that Bono brought back from a recent “business trip” to Compton, the game was on. As any true leader would do to build morale, he immediately looked at his team and asked “where are my studs?”. Several alpha males on his team thought this was a slight, but I could see right past that and knew that Bono, such a wise middle-aged (lol) Nantan, was simply inspiring his merry band of misfits to try and achieve one of the greatest upsets in the history of Ultimate Football.

And achieve an upset they did, handily beating my squad by several scores. A few things I learned from today include:

Dewey is a baller.

Peaches has a cannon for an arm.

Mr. Belding is competitive. After boxing out a young lady approximately 10 years of age to make a catch in the middle of the field, Mr. Belding flips the ball to a teammate, pounds his chest with both hands and screams “Respect” to no one in particular. Not naming names here, but the girl’s father immediately comes over to her and says “And that’s why we send you to private school honey.”

White Shadow is not white. (And also a flat out athlete – watch out AG High School, you have a true stud on your hands next year!)

A strong suit of our PAX is not sports trivia. After a 2.0 stated his name was Stockton, an unnamed PAX immediately shouted out “Mail Man.” My friend, Karl Malone was the Mail Man. John Stockton was the scrawny, trash ‘stash wearin’, extremely caucasian point guard known as one of the greatest passers in NBA history who likely could not jump and touch a piece of the net if he got a running start from halfcourt.

And last but not least, I had to google Percy Jackson upon returning home. To the disbelief of several PAX, I had absolutely no clue who this was. I thought Percy was the creeper from Dawson’s Creek that didn’t have a shot with any of the ladies of the show. After another google search, it turns out that that was Pacey and he dated Katie Holmes (before Tom Cruise) in real life. So I was 0-2 on that one…

Announcements

Blue Ridge Relay coming up in September. Check in with Gazelle if interested. Dedicated training sessions will be ramping up next month.

The Boyd Lee Beatdown workout will resume as regularly scheduled next Saturday at 7:00am.

Prayer Requests

The pastor at Ignite celebrated the birth of Monoamniotic (MoMo) twins. As slight complications occurred during the delivery process, please keep this family in your prayers. @F3Peaches and others are doing a great job at providing periodic updates for the PAX. This condition occurs about once every 35,000 to 60,000 pregnancies, so God obviously has a very special plan for these two precious babies and their parents.

All friends and family of PAX continuing their battle against cancer, ALS and various other conditions.

Moleskin

How about all the 2.0’s that woke up early and joined their dad this morning! It was a special moment for me to watch Cousin It put his arm around Durantula in the prayer circle this morning, quietly affirming his love and appreciation of his son sharing this experience with him. Bro, I’m jealous!!! I can’t wait for my own sons to be old enough to come out and hopefully get to share that same experience…

May each 2.0 realize that the steps their father is taking with F3 creates a unique experience for them. This experience helps to create belief. Belief leads to faith. Let’s all think about that as we go out into our own worlds this week and work to create experiences for those around us that lead to faith.

It’s tough not to get a little misty-eyed typing this up when I actually stop to think about the bigger picture and the role that F3 plays. Let’s all go out and headlock somebody and yeah, we can tell them what F3 is and what F3 does, but let’s focus on showing them what F3 means.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend – Lachey
