About a month ago, Fruity Pebbles asked YHC if he would like to Q at West Side Story in the near future.  Up to that point YHC had never posted at the site but was excited for another opportunity to Q.  A few weeks later YHC posted at West Side Story, scouted the area and quickly noticed the soccer and baseball field.  The idea was set.  YHC wanted to incorporate a beatdown with different sports drills.  The day finally came about, it was 0530 and so it was time to…

Warm-Up

10 x SSH IC

10 x Merkins IC

10 x Squats IC

The Thang

The PAX were instructed to split into two teams.  Team 1 would perform a drill while Team 2 would perform a different drill and act as an opposing sports team.  Once the drill was completed, the two teams would switch sides and perform the drill the opposing team had just finished.  The first sport was…

Soccer:

Team 1:  “Dribble” the Soccer ball in-between 18 cones (moving forward) down the length of the field.  Rinse and repeat.

Team 2:  Back Peddle in-between the 18 cones and defend the opposing team.  Rinse and repeat.

Team 1:  10 x Soccer Kicks with the right foot and then 10 x Soccer Kicks with the left foot.

Team 2:  Modified Al Gore (arms extended out).

The PAX had a difficult time seeing the cones in the gloom, especially when back peddling, but everyone made it through without hurting themselves.  The teams switched sides and repeated the sequence.

Football:

Team 1:  Fast Feet.

Team 2:  Mountain Climbers with a rollover.

YHC would call out “SET” every few seconds.  Team 1 performed a squat and put one hand on the ground.  Team 2 performed a “barrel” roll on the ground and push themselves up into Mountain Climber position.  Both teams would hold their positions until YHC said “GO.”  Each exercise was performed for 1 minute.  Luckily, none of the PAX ran into each other during the MC rollovers.  There were a few close calls between Deep Dish and Spinal Tap but no one was injured.  The teams then switched sides and repeated the sequence.

Team 1:  Sprint the length of the field.

Team 2:  Back Peddle until caught by the opposing team.  Turn around, face forward and sprint the rest of the field.

The teams switched sides and repeated the sequence.

Baseball:

Team 1:  “Pitch” the ball, go into Mountain Climber position, perform 1 x MC, stand up and repeat (alternating each side).

Team 2:  Squat jumps with a half turn.  One team member at a time would run around the bases.

The drills continued until all members of Team 2 ran around the bases.  As Fruity Pebbles ran the bases, he went to round 1st base when his shoes slipped on the grass.  He went down for a second but quickly recovered.  It wasn’t noticed until near the end of the beatdown that he had a nice “strawberry” on his leg from the fall.  However, he continued to power through the beatdown without any complaining.  The teams switched sides and repeated the sequence.

Gymnastics:

Team 1:  Balls to the Wall.

Team 2:  Hollow Body hold with arms extended past the ears.

The drills were held for 1 minute each.  The teams switched sides and repeated the sequence.

Basketball:

Team 1:  Side Lunge then Jump Shot (alternating each side).

Team 2:  Squat Jumps to “block” the ball.

Obviously a majority of YHC’s shots went in, although, Cousin IT may have a different side of the story.  The drills were performed for 1 minute each.  The teams switched sides and repeated the sequence.

MMA:

Team 1:  Jab / Straight / Sprawl.

Team 2:  Hook / Uppercut / Sprawl.

No, we did not actually hit each other.  The teams performed the exercise for 30 seconds with one foot in front and then switched to the other side for another 30 seconds.  It appeared Fruity Pebbles had “knocked” himself out at the end of each round.  YHC wasn’t sure how he managed to do that but somehow it happened.  Maybe Deep Dish and/or Spinal Tap actually connected their punches and YHC didn’t see it.  Either way, the teams switched roles and repeated the sequence.

Swimming:

Team 1:  Backstroke (flutter kicks with arm circles).

Team 2:  Freestyle (lying on stomach with reverse flutter kicks and army circles).

Each team performed the exercise for 1 minute.  After about the first 30 seconds all of the PAX started “sinking.”  However, everyone would quickly recover and pick up the pace for the last ten seconds.  The teams switched roles and repeated the sequence.

Speed Skating:

Team 1:  Sprint Skating.

Team 2:  Coasting.

Each exercise was performed for 1 minute.  The Sprint Skating was most definitely a coordination thing.  It was fun and interesting to watch each PAX perform the exercise as it was a difficult move to perform.  It also didn’t matter if the Sprint or the Coast was performed first as each one was hard no matter the order.  The teams switched roles and repeated the sequence.

Wrestling:

Team 1:  Derkins.

Team 2:  Modified Plank (bent knees).

Team 1 would place their feet on Team 2’s backs to perform the Derkins.  Each exercise was performed for 1 minute.  The teams switched sides and repeated the sequence.

Skiing:

Team 1:  Slalom Hops

Team 2:  Squat Jumps

Each exercise was performed for 1 minute.  The teams switched roles and repeated the sequence.

As soon as the last exercise was completed, YHC looked at his watch and the time changed from 0614 to 0615.

It was awesome to see another great push by the PAX during today’s beatdown.  The mumble chatter was fun, the motivation was high and the determination to push through was solid.  We worked hard and broke a sweat but, most importantly, we had fun while doing it.  Thank you again for allowing me to be your Q as I enjoyed preparing for and leading today’s beatdown.  I hope everyone has a blessed day.
