3rd F Tues Nite Bible Study, Gospel of John Series

Introduction and John Chapter 1

YHC had suspended the Tues Nite study for the holiday period, but time was rolling by and several PAX had inquired about when it would resume in 2019.  After Dirty Bomb continued to #mumblechatter about it, YHC threw in the towel and decided to crank it up again.  Truth be told, YHC knew it was needed for PAX and self, so after thinking about a topic or areas to study, YHC decided to go with the Gospel of John for a good foundational series.  Word was put out on the #twittermachine and #slack, plus by word of mouth.  Start date arrived, shovel flag posted in the lawn, porch light lit, and Dirty Bomb pulled up with boxes of Little Ceasar’s pizza.  Other PAX arrived, and we were off like a dirty shirt.

Warm Up:  Welcome and disclaimer.  No FNG’s.  Opening prayer.

The Thang:

  • YHC gave a background summary on the New Testament book of John (approximate time of writing, key points about authorship, comparison with other Gospels, main purpose, etc.
  • Reviewed similarities of opening verses with Genesis 1
  • Purpose of John:  “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”  John 20:30-31
  • Took turns reading sections of John Chapter 1 and discussing what was meant by the “Word”, the references to light and darkness, the testimony of John the Baptist, and Jesus’ initial calling of the first disciples

COT:  Prayer requests.  Fixer Upper closed us out in prayer

Moleskin:  Great start to what will be a very good deliberate and focused look at a New Testament book that is both powerfully evangelical and detailed in its presentation of the key events bearing witnessed testimony to Christ being the Messiah and Way of salvation.  Looking forward to the weeks ahead, and the special fellowship of men turning to the Word of Truth together.
