Sesson 4, Radical Small Group Study, Radical Vision

YHC was looking forward to another message from David Platt from his Radical book series.  I use “looking forward to” loosely, because the material so far has been challenging in that he probes deeply into motivations and asks some very tough questions, with specific reference to Jesus’ teachings without sugarcoating the meaning/implications.  Set up the living room and prepared for what PAX might show.  Early Bird, Cousin IT, FixerUpper and DigaHole posted.  We launched.

Warm Up:  Opening prayer by YHC, quick review of previous topics and opportunity to share about any lingering thoughts from previous week.  PAX agreed that the subject last week was “gloves off” in that it challenged how we think about the poor and those in need.

The Thang:  Played DVD session 4 on Radical Strategy. Focus of this lesson was on the requirement not to just be saved and believe, but to go and make disciples.  Christ followers have a mission.  Christ sent his disciples out with specific instructions into the community/communities to share His teaching and impact the communities for him. Jesus TOUCHED people that were otherwise repulsive with sin and disease. The lesson talked about the need to have COMPASSION to influence actions and that this type of compassion is supernatural and not our normal human disposition.  Considerable time was spent on the need for compassion for the lost, with sobering statistics on how many of the world’s total population are not reached for Christ, with eternal consequences.

PAX discussed the material after the DVD message, spending time on several of the discussion questions.  Good discourse.

COT:  Prayer requests, multiple.  Cousin IT closed us out in prayer/BOM

Moleskin:  Another premium hour of a small group of PAX focused on the Word and devoting some time to things eternal.
