Tues Night 3rdF Bible Study – Lesson 5 – Radical Series

The PAX for the 3rdF Tues Nite study rallied once again for the next is a very challenging series of study sessions and messages from Pastor David Platte.  YHC put out the usual #mumblesnacks including some bonus items left over from a receptions.  #shovelflag was planted in the yard, and PAX rolled in.  Dirty Bomb had invited a new soldier from his NG unit, John Dennis, who joined us.

Warm-Up:  YHC welcomed all, did a quick review of the previous lesson’s highlights, and opened the session in prayer.  Asked a few introductory questions about the church and using talents for “making disciples”.  Read Isaiah 61:1-3 to prime the pump.

The Thang:  Played Session 5 video segment.  Key points:

1. A Divine Contrast:  God responds to the needs of hte poor with COMPASSION.  God responds to those who neglect the poor with CONDEMNATION.  Those who indulge themselves and ignore the poor will stand JUDGMENT before God.
2. An Eternal Consequence:  If we indulge ourselves and neglect the poor,earth will be our heaven.  Eternity will be our hell.
3. Clear Choice:
   1. Continue in hollow religion that neglects the poor.  Caring for the poor is not an optional extra in salvation.  Caring for the poor is necessary EVIDENCE of salvation.  You’re absolutely justified by grace alone through faith alone, but it’s a faith that radically transforms a heart.  It transforms desires.
   2. Turn in honest repentance to care for the poor.  Hear the Word humbly.  Obey the Word quickly.  We are not motivated to care for the poor by guilt.  We are motivated to care for the poor by the Gospel.  We obey Christ not because we are guilty, but because we are SAVED.
