In order for a Virtuous Leader to be come Right, he must be Prepared to get Right. That means getting ready for the expected, while being ready for the unexpected.  This was the second of four Qs for YHC to focus on two things: Becoming Prepared through the four quadrants of the G3L (Get Right, Live Right, Lead Right, Leave Right) and bringing consciousness to how our brothers in F3Sandhills are living 3rd for a worthy cause – Pilgrim’s Promise. 14 studs showed up at BLP to be “Blasted Off” for the weekend.

Warm-up – We started with three simple exercises and will end with them. Merkins, Squats, Flutterkicks. The Q had to count cadence. The pax had to keep up.

The Thang – We then completed a version of HDT with rocks rather than rucks. It may have been a simple misspelling or it may have been planned. 1/2 of ROCKDOOM is a 20 min AMRAP that goes like this:

  • Rock Thrusters x 10
  • Rock to Toe Levers x 10
  • Rock Squat x 10
  • Rock Curls x 10

We took a break 10 min in to practice Leading Right. The idea was to still be able to clearly Articulate the cadence when exhausted, because the best way to get prepared to Lead Right is to lead during times of extreme exhaustion and high stress. The Q modeled how to count the three exercises in cadence during the warm-up, each man in the group led one exercise around the circle in two groups of 7. 10 burpees was the penalty for taking more than 4 sec between reps or making a mistake. If the leader kept leading when he made a mistake, the consequence was only 5 burpees, because “When falling, Dive!” Is a key leadership principle.  After that we had 7 minutes to finish the ROCKDOOM…just because it was fun.

We finished with a plank hold, while the Q read from Q3.7 Exhortation from QSource. It was about about learning from failure…

COT/BOM – Prayers were offered for those with Cancer, those who are traveling, those who have kids, and those with unspoken prayers. The SkyQ knows who you are.

Moleskin – Today was fun. It was nice to see how guys responded to three simple exercises and how the Leadership principles of G3L can be put into place. The focus for today was on Exhortation Q3.7 in QSource. One of the quotes read was, “My Failure didn’t lead me to quit; it led me to grow, but only because I was part of a very deliberate Leadership Development Process.” Today was about fine tuning that LDP based on “Getting Right” and “Leading Right.”  Exhortation is about leading another man towards an advantage, especially when that movement seems painful and chaotic. The role of Exhortation as a Q is to make sure that all the men know clearly that remaining in the seemingly safe status quo is more of a pain than the temporary discomfort of moving to an advantage. “That is why we say that F3 is not an Organization with Leaders, but an Organization of Leaders.” That is why we “Leave no man behind, but leave no man where we found them.”

Be aware of Pilgrim’s Progress – https://www.pilgrimsprogress.solutions/ This is a ministry started by Billy Thomas in Pinehurst, NC. Billy is Flying Tomato to his F3 Brothers. He is a man of “respect” who moves like a 30-yr old, except for his knees. He loves a flip phone so face to face contact or even email is the best way to contact his organization. He is a man who literally opened up Shadow Lawn, a mansion in old Pinehurst, to his F3 Brothers for GrowRuck and to groups and individuals around the state. He literally follows the Gospel in serving those who most need love.

Between Dec 2nd and Dec 11th, Bono is going to Q 4 bootcamp workouts and bring a different message and level of pain. The request is to donate what you can, when you can to Pilgrim’s Promise. Use PayPal.Me/F3Bono on PayPal to make a donation and Bono will send in or click on the website and the contact tab to make a direct donation. I can promise you that this is one of those organizations where the founder literally put his money where his mouth is and they are doing great work by the efforts your brothers who attended GrowRuck 17 witnessed first hand.
