The 2 minute rule for email. When you get an email, if you can take care of it in 2 minutes, do it immediately. Otherwise, should defer it (put it on a to do list or calendar), delegate it, save it for future reference or delete it. This allows you to get through your email fast enough to be responsive and avoids having email dominate your workday at the expense of your other priorities.
