GrowRuck Alamo gave YHC motivation for today’s beatdown. The PT test seemed like a cool way to get the #ruckready crowd motivated. YHC asked for sandbags and the PAX delivered them like so much Easter baskets. In all, there were 14 PAX and one 50 SB, 9 60 SBs, and one 80-ish for good measure.

Disclaimer given and received.

5:15 the boys loaded their sandbags and hit the trail at Alice Keene. Warmup was under weight and YHC took first round with the big boy SB.
At all times 3 PAX did not have sandbags to help brothers who needed the break.

The boys rucked with sandbags for nearly a mile and YHC gave them 50 ruck-on burpees.

Sandbags were loaded again for about 3/4 of a mile until YHC hit them with 50 more ruck-on burpees on the gravel. During the evolution YHC gave up the 80-ish SB to an eager beaver Ma Bell. YHC made it a point to lead the PAX at a very brisk pace to create disorder. YHC commanded that no PAX would run or shuffle… but it fell on deaf, weighted-down ears. Ma Bell stepped up and made it a teachable moment. YHC was proud of his leadership in this moment, as it provided injury prevention recommendations. In short, shuffling with a sandbag is dumb.

Sandbags were loaded again and we were off. YHC asked for a stud to grab the 80 SB and Patch stepped up like the beast he is. YHC helped him get the sandbag locked and loaded, making sure to give him access to the straps. This proved to be a key moment, because as the group exited the first wooded area, Urraca worked to adjust his sandbag straps. YHC was following him as the sandbag hit the ground. Major foul. 25 burpees and a lesson came with them. Lesson learned: get your brother to help you so that you don’t drop the coupon. Never drop the coupon.

Sandbags back up and it was a more deliberate pace back to the flag to dress the sandbags and hit the COT… but then Rafiki nearly died. We checked on him to make sure he was ok (some wanted to take a picture of the ball of Rafiki strewn across the sandbags). Seems a carabiner attached to his ruck somehow clipped itself to the sandbag handle. Weird and wild stuff never seen by this rucker. But he did not die, so we good.

6:15.
