YHC somehow scheduled two Qs the same week while trying to maintain mileage for a marathon training. However, the advantage to being the Q means being able to plan the workout. 14 studs including 2 FNGs posted to find out what was in store. We ran a little, we sweated a little, we accelerated a lot.

Warm-up: We started with a disclaimer, the Mission, Credo, and a few exercises as a preview: SSH, Squats, Merkins, Imperial Walkers.

The Thang: Start your Garmins for this one. 1/4 mile run to the VBall courts – 5 Merkins. Go back for the 6 – 5 squats. Back to the VBall Courts – 10 Merkins. Regroup with the 6. Repeat that pattern 3 times with the flag as the end point on one side and VBall courts on the other. The trick is to push yourself to go faster and see what the Merkins and Squats do to your speed. The fast guys were sub 7 min miles. The Clydesdales were fasting and pushed themselves.

The next set was based on Suicides with an exercise each round. Starting at the access road to Mt Boyd Lee, do 5 reps of the exercises at each cone returning to the start:

  • Jump Squats
  • Jump lunges

The next exercise was a choice between one more round of Suicides with Mule Kicks or a Progression 1/2 Mile. Start at a slightly uncomfortable pace and get faster each 1/4 mile. We finished with 45 seconds left and ended with American Hammers.

COT: Prayers for the family in Ahoskie where kids were involved in a car accident. Chum Lee’s father passed away. Coach Carter’s dad’s church lost two deacons last week, remember Rufus and Harry. Stern’s Dad is recovering. FIN’s ribs.

Moleskin: We had two new guys this morning. One was a runner, one started his running career today. Both men pushed themselves. One of the things YHC loves doing during a workout is to get to know the guys both during the workout, when we are moseying, and when we need to take a 10-count. Why take a 10-count when we can get a guy to tell us a little about himself. Here are some things YHC learned during this fast paced workout:

  • Redbox had a hole in his head and not all his brains spilled out. Literally, he had to have a blood clot removed from his brain. That dude is a leader in all the right ways. He doesn’t brag, he doesn’t always lead from the front, but he is consistent and takes care of the pax with LOVE. That is the kind of leader who leave a legacy and I’m glad to know him.
  • Silverado is the 4th of 5 boys and he likes to try to beat up his brother, who is a doctor. Luckily, his brother has the skills to patch him up after pounding on Silverado.
  • Shortgame somehow has figured out the trick to stay sane and still work with Showboat. I’m not sure how he does that, but give that man an inventory and I’m interested in seeing how fast he can sell a car.
  • Verticutter is freaky fast. That dude stayed at the front of the pack the whole time. Don’t think that golfers are lazy, drink beer, and ride in golf carts…wait they do all those things, it’s just that Verticutter is fast in doing it. I’m not sure how he and Titantic remained friends since they were 7, but somehow I guess Verticutter is patient and Titantic hooked a strap to him to draft off that speed, at least that is what I was trying to do today.
  • Blowout knows how to cut hair and his two older kids are out of school and his younger kid is not yet in school, so it seemed like Blowout was an appropriate name based on he and his M’s experiences…
  • Mr. Heyman likes to complain and talk. It’s a great thing to take your mind off the suck, so YHC says, keep taking brother
  • Fruity has some sneaky speed. He was nursing a sore knee, but blew past YHC a couple of times.
  • FIN is FIN. He likes to be up front and runs with a slight twinge in his gait, like his trying to preform on Say Yes to the Dress or Queer Eye. He’s just trying to run fast and compete, so don’t pick on him. I don’t want you all to hurt his feelings.
  • About Time is one of the faster new Pax I have seen. He ran XC with Coach Bailey at Conley, so running around Boyd Lee was old school for him. He really turned it up the last 1/2 mile progression. Need to make sure he is on board to run more.
  • THE Ken Burns and Blueprint stayed after to do their monthly PT challenge. I’m not sure what it involved, but to get crushed at a workout and then stay after and push through a test takes some gonads and both of them showed it.
