A few months ago, the PAX of the CollardPatch were finishing up a beatdown when a mysterious sedan slow-rolled into the parking lot. It gave us some space, but we kept an eye on it. As finished our COT, the driver got out and introduce herself. She explained that she lived in Ayden and that her porch had started to collapse due to rotting boards. Her landlord had refused to fix it, even though she had fallen through one of the rotted sections. She said that she had heard about F3 and our reputation for helping members of the community. She asked if there as anything we could do to help.

Wow…this hit YHC like a ton of bricks. Here’s a person who was willing to swallow her pride and ask for help, without ever having met one of us. THIS IS WHAT WE TRAIN FOR. This is why we get out of bed in the middle of the night just to do merkins in the rain. We were being given an opportunity to improve our community.  LET’S GO!

YHC immediately put out a call for donations. If you’ve seen the price of building materials lately, you know what YHC was worried about. YHC soon enlisted Nickleback (aka Mr. Home Genius) to help with this project. His expertise and tools would prove invaluable. A few months later, YHC’s brother, Stripper, began posting. He was quickly recruited to the project due to his expertise (Clay’s Home Repair & Electrical). A number of others signed on enthusiastically.

I want to say a special thanks to those of you who donated to this project: Redbox, Forrest, Gazelle, Floater, Deep Dish, Candy Cane, Aquaman. Your contributions made this project possible.

After an initial scouting mission by Nickleback and YHC, we set the date for 3/20/21 to complete the project. At 9AM, Nickleback rolled in with his fully-equipped work trailer and the work commenced. We started with demo and proceeded onto construction. At break time, we were given a home-cooked meal of delicious spaghetti! At one point, Urraca went home to get a new saw to make the work go by smoother.

We had great help that day. “Many hands make light work”. By 1:15, the project was complete and we were out (each of us carrying a bag of freshly baked cookies). I could not have imagined the project going any better.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAD A HAND IN THIS PROJECT!

YHC encourages each of you to seek out opportunities for F3ENC to improve its community. If you find the project, we’ll provide the labor! There’s no point in getting right and living right, if we’re not going to lead right! #3rdF
