20.20 Ruck for 2020

The kickoff to the 2020 Ruck Challenges was a 20.20 ruck. Date was sent out to our Darkside Crew and we had a few dropout before due to “Ladies Night” and the flu but 8 PAX stepped up to the Challenge. Abu and Skynyrd both must have had hot dates as they started early with the hopes of logging additional miles. The two of them met the rest of us at 8pm at Elm Street Park. Noonan had to make a special delivery at Starbucks and grab a coffee so once he was ready, the quest for 20.20 began. The route for the evening was;

Elm Street Park to Brook Valley through Tucker Estates (Sherwood, Rondo, Cadenza, Paramore). From Brook Valley to 10th Street to entrance of greenway near Greensprings Park.
Greenway to Town Commons. First break was at the Commons. Time to refuel and get out of the rain for a few minutes
From Town Commons to Dickinson via 1st St. to Pitt then to overpass via Reade to Evans. The overpass is where we said our goodbyes to Abu and Skynyrd as they were close to their mileage and the rain made it too miserable to think about 26 miles.
Overpass to Moye Blvd to Guy Smith Stadium and then from Guy Smith Stadium to Greenville Blvd via Hooker. Made a left on Greenville Blvd towards Charles. Took our second and last break at MedDirect where the overhang on the building got us out of the rain for a bit and we got to stretch and refuel.
Last stretch was towards Charles Blvd, to 10 St., through campus and up College Hill then towards Elm Street. Had to do a couple laps in the CM Eppes parking lot and the Elm Street Park parking lot to ensure we all hit 20.20, where finally the rain stopped for a bit as well.
Completed the challenge in under 6 hours which ended up being 5hr and 22min of actually moving time. The weather which was not only wet the entire time, but was also in the 30s-low 40s, made it challenging the entire night but this great group of PAX pushed through it together as a team! Definitely the longest YHC has rucked in the rain… I’m sure that every car and person that passed us during this 6hrs probably was wondering what the heck these dudes were doing walking in pouring rain, with jackets on and “backpacks…” the answer is simple; Just Doing Hood Rat Things With the Boys ;) Until next time…
