Sasquatch III went down like this:

Pax from the East gathered in the gloom next to the Tar River in the Greenville Town Commons. A thunderstorm in the early hours soaked the ground and in its passing provided cloud cover that the Pax would appreciate later.

YHC was a part of this great happening. Zero hour came and the Pax formed up in a circle next to the river walk. Countarma happened and we were 119 strong.

BOM:

String Bean, Weasel Shaker for ENC Crossbones, led us in kicking things off. He stated what was at the forefront of our minds for a lot of us:  one year ago and Papa Smurf. He carried the flag that F3 Carterico gave to Papa at Sasquatch II. He informed the Pax that as they crossed the finish Papa Smurf’s flag would be there to greet them just as he had the previous year. YHC knelt with the Pax as String Bean and Battleship led in prayer. Then Sasquatch was on.

COT/MOLESKIN

CSAUPS don’t just happen and as usual the Pax of F3 ENC stand up and do what needs to be done. The Pax purchased the water, Gatorade and other food. They encouraged, protected and guided the Pax in pursuit of the Sasquatch. Thanks to the support crew Pax for serving. Those Pax who drove through the dark at 4 am, those who came and spent the night and participated in some great 2nd F hosted by the grill master Shrimp. For the M’s and other family members and friends along the course and who support us every day. We say thanks.

FNGs welcomed were Rabbit Hole and Ira Hayes.

Awards presented for Respect Finisher (Busted Grill) Youngest (Pepperoni) Drove the Furthest (Gilligan).

The Hoff reminded us that Papa Smurf continues to inspire the Pax when he talked about his relationship with Papa Smurf and how while in the grips of ALS the light in his eyes reflected a spirit that continues to live on in all of us today. Great words from one of the best men YHC knows. Thanks Hoff.

Bono also reminded us that there’s a reason for CSAUP. There’s a reason why as men we seek out the CSAUP. We do this for brotherhood. “…something we do not in spite of their difficulty, stupidity and pointlessness but because of it.” (Freed to Lead p. 106)

Crossing the finish at Sasquatch and is not the end. It’s a part of climb. YHC has learned that each CSAUP is not a “mountain top” it is another marker on the mountain. Keep pushin’ the Rock!
