This morning’s workout was all about teamwork. It was a chilly 27 degrees out when 6 hard-core HIM’S showed up to begin the EC ruck that started at Pearson park, went through downtown Kinston, past Fairfield park where some of the runners had already started to assemble, and back around to our starting point at Pearson Park. We may have gotten a little over ambitious on this EC because about the time we had made it to the old power plant we had about 7 minutes left before we had to be back at the stage at Pearson park for the normal working. This is when we began to really beat feet. All 5 HIM’s stepped it out and made it back a couple of minutes late. Not too shabby for a 3+ mile rucksack march. Thank goodness we work as a team because as we approached the stage, Speed Square already had the group circled around him doing warm-up exercises. We wasted no time and jumped right in with them. This is where the real fun began! I asked the group if they were ready to go and cries of AYES filled downtown Kinston. We moseyed to the parking lot where the coupons and Rescue Randy awaited us. For those who don’t know Rescue Randy is the 220-pound dummy, the fire department uses in training. He is the guy that always takes a beating and today would be no different. He was already loaded on a talon stretcher which would be carried by the group for over two miles. We quickly lifted him along with the other coupons that would be carried along our journey. Beating feet, we were off, down the path that runs behind Pearson park. As we marched the Q would call out rotate, the front two men on the stretcher would fall out to the rear and the back two men would move up. This would continue for over two miles until we had returned to our starting point. This task demanded teamwork to complete and that’s exactly what we did. Upon reaching our stopping point, we had about 6 minutes to spare so we took full advantage of this time by doing 15 three count merkins (Farva), followed by 20 three count flutter kicks(Farva), next was 20 rucksack swings(Chestnut), 10 get-ups(Shortstop), and last but not least 25 curls for the girls(Speed Square).

With the workout complete we move to
