At 116 about 2 weeks ago, BJ explained that the next two Qs at Ruck Ready would bring it – Ma Bell last week and Bono this week. I gave Ma Bell a fist bump because he offered and YHC figured that old age meant that there was a calendar problem. After the workout, BJ confirmed I had the Q – He pulled a fast one on me. What neither of us figured was that YHC was given the Q the Tuesday after the Joe Warner Ft Bragg Heavy, an event Bush and YHC completed in 2017. The ideas started following. 20 pax showed up to see what went down, including 2 FNGs. Here it is:

The Thang – There is no warm up and the disclaimer displayed the right amount of “Qumility” as Abu put it, “Even though I look like a stud, I am not a professional…” The 12-mile Ruck March was first in 2017, so we started with it as well.

2017 Ruck March Consequence – This was what Cadre Dan subjected us to on the 2nd half of the timed ruck march – there was no timer, the consequence was a given no matter how fast we went.

  • 2×2 Ruck March > Duck March; Lunge; Bear Crawl. Rinse and repeat, just because. Slowly, we made it to the back soccer field.

Put on; Take off – Ma Bell alluded to the fact that we were too slow in taking our Rucks off and putting them on again. We needed to practice that. We were slow at first – a 15-count, but got much better, even going from a bear crawl position to rucks overhead. After about 6 rounds, guys got the point.

Win All You Can – Cadre always say “It pays to win” so we took that principal and turned it around. Guys lined up for the following exercises: 50 yrd bear crawl; Lunges; Crabwalk

  • The first guy to finish was the winner – everyone else got to stop the exercise; the winner didn’t have to do any more and could take his ruck off
  • The losers who didn’t get to the finish line and were left behind and did burpee penalties and continued the PT
  • Vanilla almost spoiled the entire point when he prompted everyone to bear crawl at the same speed during the first round. The Q decided to see how long the teamwork would last and that was the only round. All the men needed was one man to be crowned a winner. The Q asked Herme if he was the winner – he said No. The Q saw him finish slightly ahead of the rest. Named him the winner.
  • The next several rounds, the men got to do penalties – burpees x 5. After 2 rounds, Vanilla threw out the truth nugget that we didn’t do burpees after the first round. No one else picked up.
  • Finally the guys figured it out and finished as a team and we were done with that evolution.

2018 Wilmington Casualty Carry – 1 casualty per 4 men; Sandbags as well. Since there were 20 men, we went with 5 casualties. Unfortunately, BJ was one of those 5 guys and proved to be a heck of a casualty. The team was moving with no purpose because the goal was lofty and far away – the playground. The Q wanted to see what would happen when everyone was stopped at the woods and a shorter goal was given. Get through the woods and the casualties would be gone. The energy came back and guys moved. The team moving BJ was the most impressive, even though they had to put that bear down twice. They didn’t blame, they didn’t wine, they didn’t asked to have a sub come it. They reset and kept moving. The only thing the team could have done better was to 1) switch arms/shoulders more often; 2) have the first guys finish come back to help out.

2019 Robbie Miller WOD – AMRAP up to 12 rounds. This was a killer WOD at the 2019 Joe Warner. We got between 3-5 rounds in.

  • 6 Mountain Climbers/Pull-ups
  • 6 Burpees
  • 6 Ruck gets up (Ruck on Front)
  • 6 Merkins

We finished off the morning with 30 flutter kicks IC.

COT/BOM – Prayers for all injured pax; Vanilla’s wife’s uncle who had 5 transplants is doing better; Belly Dancers leg is injured; Duff’s Dad; Thunderbird’s brother in law friend needs prayers. Daughters who have tonsillitis. Herme is going to be a dad very soon.

Moleskin – Today was fun. Today was a challenge. What’s interesting is that the Ruck March penalty didn’t seem that bad in my memory, but as soon as I started bear crawling behind Jock Itch, I remembered every sound an smell of that brutal march back. Vanilla impressed me with figuring out Win All You Can the first race. However, the competitiveness of men didn’t change and we broke the team ranks. I guess it goes to show that it’s harder to convince guys to remain a team than it is to have them become individuals through negative peer pressure.

20 men is impressive for Ruck Ready. Rucking always seems to pick up in the Spring and the Commons and 116 on the weekends gives ENC three solid Ruck Workouts. It will be interesting to see how this band of “weirdos” continues to grow and become even more of a team.
