When I looked on the calendar and noticed that 9/11 fell on Wednesday (YHC is the site Q for that day) I decided that as a group the men of Washington needed to do something to honor those who died on this day 18 years ago.  In trying to decide what to do Ramses stated that he had a 30 foot fire hose that his father had given him years ago when he retired from being a fireman.  What a better way to pay tribute to those men and women firefighters who died that day than to carry a heavy hose with us as we set out on our workout.  So in reaching out via email, text, twitter, and slack to the whole Washington PAX we were able to show up 22 strong for a memorial workout to honor those of 9/11.

The PAX all arrived ready to see what the day was going to hold for them.  I asked that if they had a ruck sack to bring it and if they didn’t Largemouth always has a few sand bags in his truck just in case.  With ruck sacks on we lined up with the fire hose on our shoulders and made our way over to the city court house.  Once we arrived YHC explained to the PAX the plan of attack for this workout.  On this day 18 years ago two 110 storied buildings fell to the ground and in total between the Pentagon, PA, and the towers 2997 people lost their lives.  The PAX was instructed that to honor those who died we were all going to walk up 110 flights of stairs at the court house ruck sacks on and that each man was responsible for 136/137 merkins or LBCs, their choice.  Burt was a machine and we all think that he did an additional 50-60 flights of stairs after he was done because he needed some EC.  After the 6 was in we picked up our hose and headed back to the flags.  Upon arriving back at the flags we circled back up for little bit more pain to finish off the day.  With ruck sacks still on 110 SSH and to end the day each man ran in place as each man did 5 burpees x 22 men = 110.

It was a honor to lead these men through this trying workout as it was not easy getting up and down those flights of stairs with an additional 30lbs on your back.  It made me think of what those men went through that day with all their turnout gear on, oxygen tanks, axes, hoses, and other fire gear as they headed up those flights of stairs knowing that they more than likely weren’t coming back to their loved ones.  This is a special day in our history as a country and my prayer is that we as a nation never forget what happened to us but most importantly I hope that we remember how we felt on 9/12/2001.  On that day we were more united and together than ever before!  Skin color, religion, political parties, and other issues didn’t matter because we were all AMERICAN and AMERICAN’s are the strongest unified group of people in the world when forget all the divisive stuff and come together as one.

Till next time…..Enron
