0440 EC with YHC, Haavaad, Tap, Ratched and Skynyrd. Back to the flag at 0530. Skynyrd had bullpen duty at school so he had to leave but we had 8 more PAX ready for a beatdown.

YHC was on Twitter a couple days ago and saw someone posted a ruck workout dedicated to Kobe. Really felt moved by what I saw so I decided to incorporate a similar workout (without the ruck) to the Clydesdales workout today. Everything would have to deal with an 8 or 24 in honor of Kobe.

Warmup

  • SSH x 24 IC
  • Merkins x 8 IC
  • Plank Jacks x 24 IC
  • Butt Kickers x 8 IC

The Thang

Moseyed over to Mount Murphy for a 24min AMRAP session with 8 reps of the following 8 exercises;

Burpees, Merkins, Hand Release Merkins, Carolina Dry Docks, Jump Squats, Lunges (2 is 1), Prisoner Get-Ups and the 8 times up the stairs, all while jamming to a little AC/DC

Moseyed over to the Meadows. Bearcrawl to each tree (4 of them in total). First tree, 8 merkins. Next tree, 24 flutter kicks. Then 8 more merkins at the next tree and then 24 more flutter kicks at the last tree. Plank for the six and then rinse and repeat. Al Gore for the six.

Running close on time so moseyed to the side of Minges. PAX would perform 3 different exercises with an 8 count by each PAX, for a total of 24. Exercises; People’s Chair, BTTW and Chicken Peckers.

Couple minutes left so a quick mosey back to flag for two rounds of Mary (American Hammers- 8 count and Flutter Kicks- 24 count).

Moleskin

The recent tragedy with Kobe, his daughter and the seven others who passed away really got my attention. I’m a sports guy, not a big basketball guy but always appreciated Kobe’s game for the competitor he was. His will to win on the court was second to none and transferred over to off the court for him as well… I could always appreciate that about him. But I think in a strange way, even though I never met the man, it seemed with us being close in age that we sort of “did life” together; while Kobe got into the league at an early age, he struggled to figure things out and I was doing the same in the workforce. We had kids at about the same age and when he had issues with his marriage, I had issues in mine. He loved his kids and did so much behind the scenes to be present in their lives and that is something that I always felt strong about and did myself.

So when YHC got the news from my 2.0 about Kobe, I immediately thought about his family and then when it was determined that one of his daughter’s was with him on that chopper, I immediately thought how hard it was for him to know in those last few seconds that he was always there for his 2.0s, to protect them and to love them and in these seconds, he knew he could not protect his daughter. As a father who loves his 2.0s beyond measure, I just could not think of what Kobe was thinking at that moment.

It’s times like these that you sit there and ask “why” because it makes no sense for this to have happened, to change so many lives, for those three teens to lose their lives before they really experienced life. At the end of the day, “why” might still be hard to answer but we know that we have no control of “why” but what I can pull away from this and will try to apply each day and I hope you can as well;

Hug Them.

Hold Them.

Call Them.

Show Up For Them.

Say I Love You.

Until Next Time…

Stabler Out
