The only way to get stronger is to get comfortable with the uncomfortable. That means we have to do what we hate, so it becomes more tolerable. 7 men showed up at The Donut Shop, which is one of YHCs top three favorite AOs. That fountain makes me actually pause for a moment…just a moment.

The Thang: YHC hates burpees AND got good at them by doing them. We started with an OBT Special: Shock and Awe as a warm-up. Burpees from 10 to 2 with a surprise at the end. Then we partnered up to tell your partner the three exercises you hate the most. This would form the basis of what we did today. Mosey to the track around the ball fields.

The format worked like this: The first three guys (the older one in the pair) one at a time, picks one of his hated exercises and leads it. Minimum of 10 reps; max of 30. Run to next area and repeat with 3 more guys (the young guns). To practice different types of cadence, you name the exercise and Q names the type of cadence. Here’s what we did by pax:

  • Scotty Moe – BTTW; and then Carolina Dry Docs
  • Soft Shell – Bear Crawl and then BTTW
  • Tiny Dancer – Flutter Kicks and then Mountain Climbers
  • ATB – Burpees and then Dirkins
  • Walstreet – Plank and then Squats
  • Bartman – Clorox merkins and then Wind sprints

Then we moseyed back to the Flag and completed Super Lt Dans in the circle, find a bench with a buddy. You will be Bench Buddies. 1) Single legs squats; do Lt Dans to the next Bench; 2) Single leg squats with other leg; do Lt Dans back to the first bench; 3) Jump Lunges; do Lt Dans back; 4) Larry Birds; do Lt Dans to the flag. We got to “waive” to Seal as he rode by at 0610.

COT/BOM: Prayers for Hot Pursuit and his son; Hot Spot and Wall Street for their recoveries.

Announcements: Sign up for the Sasquatch. Be sure to support the team if you can’t race.

Moleskin: Control is one of those mirages in life that we think we can have, and then we realize that we can’t control anything outside ourselves. YHC hates burpees and Lt. Dans. When Charlie Brown has the Q on Fridays at Boyd Lee, we know that he will bring Lt. Dans into play. Can’t control that old man, but YHC can control how strong my legs become by doing as many squats as possible. We have to give up control of most things outside ourselves, but we are still in control of how strong we make ourselves by what exercise we choose. The challenge today is to pick the three exercises you hate the most and do at least two of them every time you Q. Then and only then do you have control over the cadence and the count. These hateful exercises don’t get any easier – we just get stronger. That can make it seem like you don’t need as much control as you thought, because you are now strong enough to handle anything.

See you tomorrow…
