“I wish to preach, not the doctrine of ignoble ease, but the doctrine of the strenuous life.” – Theodore Roosevelt

A few days ago, some of the Darkside Ruck guys were asked to come to Washington and help out with ruck training and to give an idea of what to expect at a GoRuck event.  Say no more….this coming Sunday 11/26 at 05:00 Goose and myself are q’ing a 3 hour ruck event.  This will be an awesome opportunity to get a small sample of what you might go through when you sign up for a GoRuck event.   Here is a very broad idea of what to expect and how to prepare:

Date and Time:

Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 05:00 on the Waterfront in Washington

*This is free, with no sign-up necessary.*

Who can participate:  ANYBODY!!  For those interested in rucking and signing up for a GoRuck event, this will be a great way to get an idea of a what goes on and how you need to prepare.  Again, we are not GoRuck cadre.  We are just two dudes who love to ruck and do stupid stuff with our brothers.  If you are wondering if you are physically capable of doing this for 3 hours, the answer is yes.  And you know what will make it better? Bring one of your pals (or an FNG) with you to complete it beside.

What to bring:

  • a ruck or a backpack
  • a 20 lb. ruck plate or a 30 lb. ruck plate (if you do not know which to go with, always go with the 30 because it is more fun.)
  • WATER BLADDER OR WATER BOTTLE: one of the most important things besides your ruck.  20 or 30L water bladder is recommended.  Drink lots of water the day/night before to be hydrated.
  • reflective bands if possible on your ruck (we are starting when it is still dark)
  • headlamp recommended

Fun facts:

  • I would recommend wearing your F3 shoes or rucking boots if you have them.  Lots of miles with weight can wear on your feet quicker than normal so have your feet prepared.
  • Body glide is not a bad idea if you do not like the feeling of sand paper between your legs.
  • Waterproof EVERYTHING in your ruck if possible: double/triple zip lock bag items that are a necessity and you don’t want wet.
  • I might recommend leaving your phone and valuables in your car or at home.  You will not want them to get wet….its better safe than sorry.

This is NOT your typical F3 workout….it will be roughly 3 hours long with 2 Q’s.  There will be a few different evolutions (there will be a phase at the beginning explaining terminology and standards so no worries if you are lost already) involved which will require the man to your right and left to be there to lift you up when things get tough.  It will not be easy by no means, but it will be fun.  At the end of the day, who wants it to be easy any way?

TIME TO GET COMFORTABLE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE!

We hope to see everybody there; show up with a positive attitude and have fun!  If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to shoot Jock Itch (@griffahlers) or Goose (@F3ENC_Goose) a message on Twitter.  One last thing, if you are wondering if you should come the answer is ABSOLUTELY.

Jock Itch OUT.  See y’all Sunday.
