YHC has not been Q at 116 yet. I regrettably have not posted here as much due to expansion, being out of town, or just plain Fartsacking…….but the times I have been here it seems like we’ve explored the entire AO. Mayhem wanted to bring something new to the table today and stretch out the boundaries of this AO into uptown Greenville, so a plan was made. The new start time of 7am didn’t help Mayhem arrive any earlier…..got there at 6:55. Site Q Stabler was present with shovel flag planted. Met Classified for the first time. Underdog pulled up with 2.0 riding shotgun. 7am we were ready to roll.

Warm Up

  • Although the sun was already up………Good Mornings x 12
  • Good Nights  x 12
  • SSH  x 12
  • Tie our shoes and let’s go run!

The Thang

We moseyed down Elizabeth Street and left on 5th street. Stopped in front of my old Alpha Sig Fraternity house just past the RR tracks. YHC avoided details but said back in the day before a party, we had to make a “run” to the Stop Shop down the road for Kegs. So we ran down 5th Street to Stop Shop……with progressive burpees at each intersection. At Stop Shop held a Wall Sit for about a minute, then ran over to the Parking Deck.

Stabler commented “Look a parking deck! What a great place to run”……..so of course I had to oblige! The PAX were instructed to SPRINT up each ramp; Imperial Walkers around each turn; then SPRINT up the next ramp. Rinse and repeat until we get to the top.

At the top, what better way to get some fresh air than to circle up and do some Mary exercises!  Each PAX led something: Captain Thor, Windshield Wipers, WWI situps, LBC’s, and Box Cutters were the choice of the day.

Run back down and head uphill to the Town Commons. We found our way down to the riverfront and stopped where the American Flags were set up. YHC gave more instructions:  20 LBC’s then run behind the ampitheatre; another 20 LBC’s; run down to the purple bench for 20 more LBC’s; run back to the ampitheatre for 20 and back to the starting point for 20 more. Rinse and repeat until we had done 200 LBC’s. Good way to mix some ab work while adding to mileage.

We then moseyed over to Greene Street and stopped for a quick 10 count. YHC proclaimed “OK, let’s run toward the Airport…..follow me” and took off running across the Tar River Bridge!  Heard some mumblechatter which had YHC laughing hysterically to myself……knowing we were only going to cross the river, turn around, and come back on the other side……but had definitely created an “Oh Shit Moment” amongst the PAX. On the return run, Classified commented that although he didn’t think he could make it, he was going to try! Exactly the point!  Stretch ourselves to go with the PAX further than we would alone by ourselves!

Arrived back at 116 at 8am. Got in about 4 mile this morning.

Prayer Requests

Safe travels for Stabler and his family as they travel to California for his Grandfather’s memorial service, and then back for baseball travel next weekend

Several PAX recovering from injury, soreness, and other issues. Pray for recovery and that they find their way back to the Gloom.

Pray for this AO 116, and that we can become a more visible presence in this community and reach other men we have not reached before.

Moleskin

A few weeks ago, I attended a funeral for one of my Dad’s best friends…….Mr. Buck Brown. Buck was a building inspector with the City of Greenville, and lived around the corner from 3rd Street School aka 116. At the funeral service, I saw several guys that I went to high school with, and even played Little League Baseball with. Many of them went forward during the service to tell everyone what an impact “Uncle Buck” had on their lives.  Some of them grew up without Father’s in the home, or fathers that were not around. But if they needed advice, you could always as “Uncle Buck” and he would tell you like it is! He might not tell you what you wanted to hear…….but he would tell you what you needed to hear….and he held them accountable. He showed a genuine interest in each of the kids in the neighborhood……..in addition to his own. Definitely a #HIM. What a tremendous legacy to leave behind. Men like Papa Smurf, Uncle Buck, and hopefully you and I.  Let’s stretch ourselves to touch others each day. Make a difference to someone…..at home…..in the neighborhood…..anywhere we might be. Leave your mark.
