YHC slipped the lesson from last week to this week.  Some disruption to schedules due to Hurricane Florence was expected, but the show must go on!  Cold Cut got a little confused on the days of the week and posted Monday evening at 7 p.m.  We had a good conversation at my front door.  It was good practice.  To his credit, he made it back on the actual night too.  Mayhem, DigaHole and Early Bird arrived too and we circled up in the Hot Pursuit living room to dive into the material – Theme:  Radical – Focus

Disclaimer:  No FNG’s

Warm Up:  YHC welcomed the PAX back.  Summarized a few hurricane-related items, and reviewed the first two lesson theme (Radical – Abandonment and Radical – Grace) in the Radical series by David Platt.

The Thang:

  • Opened with Cold Cut reading Romans 10:9-15
  • Played DVD segment
  • Main Points Included tough questions like:  Do we really believe this Book (Bible)?, Do we believe what the Book says about church?, Do we believe what the Book says about the lost?
  • Challenged with statements like “Don’t come to Jesus as the means to an end.  You come to Jesus to get God.”, and “Will we choose comfort or a cross?”
  • PAX were challenged to consider the difficulty of truly following Christ when we are relatively wealthy and live in an affluent society.
  • Consideration was also given the mandate in scripture to attend to, and have concern for, the poor.
  • PAX used suggested discussion questions to dig deeper.

Romans 10:9-15 (ESV)
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?[a] And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Proverbs 28:27 (ESV)
27 Whoever gives to the poor will not want,
but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.
