YHC received a text/phone call from Cold Cut requesting for assistance with a Sacred Sunday Q due to some tech. issues, although YHC already had agreed to Q a Saturday convergence, duty called, and YHC hates to leave a brother hanging.

When we arrived it was just Wok N’ Roll (YHC’s 2.0) and Cold Cut, but nevertheless, “where two or more are gathered together” it is a good opportunity for a beatdown (that is what the rest of that Scripture says right?).

All gathered around the shovel flag at 0715, and after a Cold Cut led us off with a short prayer, we proceeded to a brief warm up period.

Warm Up: Arm Cricles (large & small), Good Mornings, Arm Crosses, Bean Pickers, “Rattlesnake Claps” (originally “Cobra Claps”) x 10 each.

This warm up was designed to loosen us up after the convergence Saturday and for the most part accomplished that objective. The “Rattlesnake Claps” were a modified “Cobra” position, as a 3 count exercise with a shoulder tap, right/left, and a clap from the “Cobra” position.

Cold Cut informed YHC that he had watched/read something from the special forces that the “Cobra” position done properly involves holding the entire body off the ground except the tip of the toes, and the torso up in the air. YHC confirmed that nobody present was special forces, and proceeded with the initial plan of trying to loosen up the lumbar without breaking anyones face. Since YHC was rightly corrected, but remained stubborn in the exercise design, YHC decided to rename it post-mortem as a “Rattlesnake Clap” to avoid any further confusion.

YHC was also challenged by Cold Cut to demonstrate the exercise (“if you can’t do it, don’t do it”) which YHC gladly stepped up to do.

After the warm up, Cold Cut took the Q and all headed to the stairs for some Cinco/Nickel. Merkins/Squats (top/bottom), Summo Squats, Plank Variations (top/bottom) were performed in various multipules of 5 at the top and bottom of the stairs.

After the stairs, YHC resumed the Q and all PAX mosied to Minges Meadow for a variation on BLIMPS.

At the start and at each pole the PAX performed an exercise at own pace, did an exercise between points, and then either held plank or Al Gore for the 6 and waited for instructions on the next exercise and variation. At each station the number of reps increased by 5 (to the end and back)

  • The digital Weinke went haywire about 1/2 through this so the exercises were a bit adlibbed.
  1. 5 Burpees/Lunge
  2. 15 Merkins/Spring
  3. 20 WWI Situps/Bear Crawl
  4. 25 Squats/Sprint
  5. 30 WWII Situps/Bear Crawl
  6. 35 Hallelujah/High Knees (variation) – I think we referred to this as a “Penteostal Hallelujahs”

From here we headed to the circle to do some 3rd F with a devotional.

YHC broke out that MDiv education and put together a devotional based on John 14:27 (ESV) from today’s lectionary readings.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (Jn. 14:27)

We discused how to define peace, if peace was something that common (or missing) in our culture, and if each of us personally had peace, or struggled to have peace.

YHC then did a bit of an exegetical break down on Jn. 14:27, and the PAX discussed barriors to experiencing the peace of God in our life including the tendency for us as men to seek peace through control and personal power (and how that was similar to Pax Romana – the “peace of Rome” that Jesus was referring to when He said His peace was “not as the world gives”) and how the peace of God is a peace that involves inner healing (mercy) and otuward action (courage) and was a peace that brought restoration to our relationships with each other and with God and enabled us to live life to the fullest.

This is just a brief breakdown (one had to be there to get the full scope), but I invite all PAX to come out in the future to participate.

We finished up with prayer requests/prayer and some 2nd F.

Moleskin: This was a good work out and a good time of fellowship together. YHC really enjoyed being able to utilize that seminary education to do some bible teaching and it was a good time of fitness, fellowship, and faith.
