The Thang

The grizzly bear is the official state animal of CA and it is on the state flag. In honor of the grizzly bear, the PAX competed in a bear crawl relay race. Two teams (adults vs kids) started on different sides with a bucket of balls in the middle. PAX would take turns bear crawling to the bucket, grabbing one ball and bear crawling back. PAX could grab As many balls as they could but would have to do 5 merkins at the bucket.Pockets and hoods were used but in the end, the adults beat the kids.

Mosey to the hill down by the railroad tracks. CA is home to Lake Tahoe, one of the most famous places to ski in the U.S. In honor of Lake Tahoe, PAX would begin at the top of the hill and slalom ski down the hill to the and then run back up the hill using the sidewalk (which served as the ski lift). PAX would perform this 4 times, which represented YHC’s favorite ski resorts in Tahoe; Northstar, Kirkwood, Heavenly and Squaw.

CA is also known for its earthquakes so the PAX would play a game of earthquake. PAX would get in a big circle and hit a volleyball back and forth to each other in the circle. Once the ball hits the ground all PAX would have to fall to the ground like the ground was moving (which is does in an earthquake) and get back up without using their arms. The PAX who caused the ball to hit the ground would have to run to the flag and back to get back into the game.

The back fields were on lockdown so YHC had to modify the baseball field. Decided to use the breezeway area and setup a small field using cones. There are 5 MLB teams in the state of CA; Angels (YHC’s favorite team), Dodgers, A’s (West Coast’s favorite team), Giants and Padres. PAX would line up and hold People’s Chair while each PAX would perform some work on the modified bases;

– Starting at home plate, crab walk to 1st base and perform 5 burpees

– Lunge to 2nd base and perform 5 low and slow squats

– Frog hop to 3rd base and perform 5 wide arm merkins

– Bear crawl back to home and perform 5 WWIs

Mosey back to the grid. There are 4 NFL teams in the state of CA; Chargers, Rams, Niners and Raiders (not for too much longer). PAX would line up near the curb and there were a series of cones setup in the grid. PAX would take turns throwing the football at one of the cones. Each cone listed an exercise. Once the ball was thrown and the cone was lifted, the PAX would perform the exercise. If a cone was hit in the air, only the adults would have to perform 5 burpees. Nobody hit a cone so all PAX performed 5 burpees. Exercises for the cones included;

50 squats

75 flutter kicks

50 plank jacks

25 donkey kicks

1min plank (which turned into a 2min plank at Cold Cut’s request

YHC cut the ski trip short based on numbers of PAX so had about 10min so moseyed over to the picnic tables for a round of 7s. Super step-ups at the picnic tables and Carolina Dry Docks at the breezeway.

8:00am was fast approaching so back to the shovel flag…
