911 Ruck Challenge-Never Forget

5:00-disclaimer proclaimed
Heading the 1+ mile to School of Science and Technology on ECU campus
Every 2 minutes-YHC shared the timeline leading up to Flight 11 hitting North Tower at 8:46

Enter the North Tower and get right to work, heading 6 stories up and back down 3 times , coming back for the 6 of course
After 3 evolutions-we took a breather at the base of the stairwell and listen to stories of bravery from that fateful day-first about the 2 retired marines, who each after hearing of the need, left work, went home, changed into their old fatigues and heading to the towers to help-they found 2 survivors in the rubble.

Headed to the South Tower and got back to work-3 evolutions up and then down-never forgetting our 6.
We heard the story of the brave passengers of United Flight 93 who sacrificed themselves to stop another attack on , most probably, the White House. They forced their way into the cabin and forced the plane down.

YHC discovered a way to prop the door at each floor open to improve airflow, each of us knowing that was not a luxury extended to those on that September morning in NYC.

3 more evolutions and Bench delivered the story of the man in the Red Bandana-a young trader that Bench knew of having grown up in the area-this man, Welles Crowther, made his way up and back down to the entrance with rescued persons. Each time he headed back in to repeat this heroism. He unfortunately never made it out himself. He was found along side firefighters, headed back up the stairwell with the “jaws of Life” in tow to evacuate the next person in need.

We repeated these evolutions until only 2 remained-at this last rest period, again Bench discussed routine, daily routine. One day, each of us will perform our morning routine for the very last time unknowingly-Make every moment, every word and every kiss goodbye count. We then sprinted up those last stories with renewed hope and purpose.

We were all fortunate to leave those stairwells, exhausted but alive . WE then headed back to the Flag , 4 miles away.

Prayers for our Country, our families and those effected physically and also mentally by Covid 19
Prayers for those families that have had to move on from that day back on that 11th day of September in 2001.

We are a Band of Brothers and we rely on eachother-we MUST continue to do just that
