Ruck pile up. Partner. (A) chooses 2 stranger rucks and shuffles around parking lot. Partner (B) completes 50 Merkins. Flapjack.

1st TL was Psycho. 16 minute pace. Casualty if formation is broken. (3 40# bags, 1 50# bag, 1 25# pipe, and 1 40# pipe)

Objective was clear:  Move together with a GOOD time.

EVOLUTION 2

Ruck pile up. 100 Werkins while partner lunges.

2nd TL was Negative Ghost Rider  (Added litter with 110# bag and 2 40# shackle & kettlebells) 

Objective was clear: same route, more weight, BETTER time.

EVOLUTION  3

Ruck pile up. 100 Ranger Merkins. Farmer’s Carry.

Last TL was Web Gem  (Addeda 45# sandbag, 3 60# bags, and an 80# all tied together with a 1/2″ chain.)

Objective was clear: same route, more weight, no gray man BEST time.

MOLESKIN:

At the conclusion of today’s AO we had an opportunity to do an AAR (After Action Review) of each evolution.  TLs, as well as all the PAX had a chance to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of our various leadership styles. I put 3 relatively newer Ruckers in charge of a fairly complex movement.  All 3 did a great job and accomplished the mission set before them.  They learned valuable lessons of Ruckership like effective communication, planning, and shared responsibility.

I titled this workout “Good, Better, Best” for a reason.  That is precisely what it took today to achieve our goals: a GOOD effort, then a BETTER effort, and finally our BEST effort.  My high school football coach, Harold Robinson, used to recite it everyday.  He would grab my facemask, look into my eyes, and with Skoal wintergreen oozing from his lip chant “Good, better, best.  Never let it rest until your good is your better and your better is your best.”  This can be applied to so much more than a workout though.  In all aspects of your life, ask yourself where are you on the scale?  Good, better, or best?  Not one of us is at our best and that is precisely why we will see each other in the gloom tomorrow – Never let it rest until your good is your better and your better is your best.
