It was a normal Saturday evening where YHC was perusing Twitter and I came across a direct message from Battleship pleading for assistance…turns out he would be out of town Monday morning and was desperately in need of a Q for Monday morning’s Beatdown. After striking out with some of his normal go-to PAX, he scraped the bottom of the barrel and asked YHC to Q for him. I accepted his challenge via a return direct message and immediately began thinking of a theme for Monday’s breakdown. What could I mold the workout around…? Election day is Tuesday, Veteran’s day is Friday…neither of these were resonating with me, however. This endeavor continued into Sunday through Sunday night and since inspiration was not taking root, I finally settled on a theme of a simple beat-down. So…after YHC rolled into Boyd Lee Park at 5:20 or so, things were just starting to solidify in my mind and YHC prayed a little prayer for guidance (apart from the extra credit prayer group that had gathered at 5:10).

5:30 struck, the extra credit guys circled up and we welcomed 2 FNGs. Disclaimer was given and here’s how it went down:

Warm-Up: SSH x 30 in cadence

Thang:

Partner up and mosey to Mount Boyd Lee where we had a little visit from Lieutenant Dan

  • Partner 1: Squats at top of hill
  • Partner 2: Lunge down the hill to where the sidewalk crosses and run back
  • Rinse and Repeat for total of 3 circuits

Mosey northward between the ball fields to the exercise equipment dropping one of the partners at the large umbrella to split the group in half where we did 11’s between the umbrella and the exercise equipment: Dolly’s and Merkins

Mosey back to brick wall at the center of the 3 ball fields with partner.

  • Partner 1: People’s Chair
  • Partner 2: Run down western spoke and back to center
  • Switch
  • Partner 1: Derkins on the wall (modify as needed)
  • Partner 2: Run down eastern spoke and back to center
  • Switch

Mosey back to Shovel Flag. Jock-Itch led the PAX in a couple of rounds of Mary which consisted of:

  • Flutter-Kicks
  • Freddie Mercury’s
  • Leg Raises – 6-Inches

Thankfully, the clock struck 6:15 and we all caught our breath and counted off while YHC tried in vain to find the voice recorder on the phone (thanks to Hot Spot and Crankshaft for the assist). All in all 24 PAX (including the 2 FNGs) endured the workout with minimal mumble chatter.

  • Quick Lube – election

  • Terrorist attack in NY
  • Patch’s wife – concern for cancer

  • Respectable BDay celebration Cold Cut, tomorrow at Ruck Ready (58!)

Moleskin:

It is great to bond as men and work hard at a task…and joke a little at the end (San Fran). My original intent was to simply have a good work out with minimal down time. I think we accomplished that goal. All in all, we ended up running about 1.5 miles, kept our heart rates up, and stayed engaged. I know that YHC’s legs will be a tad sore tomorrow, but that is okay.
