Underdog reached out and asked me to Q and I was happy to oblige. Came up with a quick beatdown (my drawing looked like Doc Brown’s drawing of the Flux Capacitor) and committed it to memory so I could be winkie free in the gloom! I woke up around 3am with the sound of thunder and rain…..woke up at 4:45 and it was still raining. Got ready and headed out to Boyd Lee and the rain had ceased! YHC planted the Mayhem shovel flag (thank you Strokes) wondering how many men would show, and was pleasantly surprised that 16 PAX were up for the Boyd Lee Build Up!

We had two FNG’s with us, so a disclaimer was given and we started promptly at 5:30am.  We did have one slightly late arrival, but since Mayhem was the Q……NO Burpee penalty…..just glad you showed up!

Warm Up

  • Good Mornings  x 15
  • SSH    x 15
  • Don Qixotes    x 15

At this point YHC broke out the speaker while explaining how big a Pirate fan I am and how I was still down over last weekends debacle vs JMU. Furthermore, I don’t expect things to improve vs West Virginia this coming Saturday.  So having West Virginia on my mind, YHC played Dueling Banjos!  The PAX assumed a plank position and did Merkins up and down to the speed of the banjos; alternating up and down as they switched between banjo and guitar. I picked the shorter version, which was still an absolute shoulder and arm blow out ! Definitely heard some mumblechatter about Deliverance and pigs.

The Thang

Everyone has done BLIMPS……well it was time for MAYHEM !  10 reps of each exercise that spelled MAYHEM.

  • M    Merkins  x 10
  • A    American Hammers  x 10
  • Y    X’s and Y’x  (Rosalita on 1-2 count and Flutter Kicks on 3-4 count = 1)   x 10
  • H    Hurpees (obviously this brought about some comments !  Hand Release Burpees. If done correctly, these really promote a good quality Burpee and is probably better on your body, IMHO )
  • E    Everest ( up the Boyd Lee driveway hill) left leg lunge and squat, right leg lunge and squat = 1      x 10
  • M    Back to the shovel flag for 10 more merkins

Plankorama for the six

YHC hated to stop when everyone was just getting the hang of it……..so after a 10 count we rinsed and repeated. I think the reaction most PAX had was “WHAT?”

After another Plankorama for the six, YHC brought out a Frisbee.  The PAX would take turns throwing the Frisbee, run toward the Frisbee while it was in flight, STOP when it lands, and LUNGE to the Frisbee. Rinse and repeat. YHC had done this before with more success at Rose High Rush; however, it was a little dark and it became a challenge to SEE the Frisbee as it was thrown in the gloom! Bench even did a fake throw and YHC and a few others took off running like a dog wondering where his master threw his tennis ball !

During the workout, Patch lost his key. At F3 we leave no man behind……so the PAX got flashlights out and combed the walkway/path and retraced our steps. Fortunately we found the key just beyond the first crosswalk!  Run back to the shovel flag to resume workout ! No burpee penalty for lost key.

YHC challenged the PAX to form a circle with heads in and feet facing outward.  This proved a little challenging, but eventually we made it happen! We did “Hands of Time”……YHC led off by holding 6” and the PAX followed suit clockwise (in theory). Then YHC alternated between 45 degrees, 90 degrees (ok maybe it was more like 78), and so forth.  After about 10 rounds we pivoted to Guantanimo, except each PAX member ran outside the circle. One round of that was enough.  Underdog finished us up with some windshield wipers and it was 6:15.

Moleskin

I think the hardest thing to do is get out of a warm, dry bed on a rainy / potentially rainy day!  I am terrible about posting on rainy days. However, I want to thank everyone who showed up this morning, not only at Build Up for my Q, but also at other AO’s.  The truth is that most of the time it doesn’t even rain. I need to get better at showing up and supporting other Q’s on rainy days, as you all showed up today and supported me. Thank you!  I hope I made it worth your while.
