Mayhem has been Expansion Q for three launches now, but never been Q at a launch; therefore, when scheduling Q’s I went ahead and put myself down for this beatdown! I had an idea of the AO, but this Q was pre-determined to leave the AO and go off campus. It also is a workout that is supposed to show the PAX the partner and team element of a workout. With COVID I tried to be somewhat mindful of distancing……partner carries were out……and wasn’t sure partner dirkins was a good idea…..so here’s what we did. We had 11 PAX show up for EC Running and 3 for EC Ruck. Not bad! Rain was in the forecast and when I woke up in Greenville, it was raining. Forged ahead and somewhere between Ayden and Kinston the rain stopped. However, as I told the PAX to begin with, the ACCOUNTABILITY of F3 is priceless. It would have been easy to fartsack on a morning like this for most people, but not for the 29 men that showed up!

We had 5 FNG’s so the disclaimer was given. We started exactly at 7am and it went like this:

Warm Up

  • Good Mornings x 10  this was met with immediate mumblechatter from Bono, who proclaimed it the most meaningless exercise in F3
  • Good Nights x 10  since he liked those so much, I gave him the 2nd most meaningless exercise. These are actually good stretches and for us RESPECT guys, getting the back muscles moving is a good way to prevent injury.
  • SSH x 10
  • Butt Kickers x 10
  • 1 Perfect Burpee – we discussed doing Burpees slow and correctly to avoid back strain and injury

The Thang

YHC said FOLLOW ME and we began running and leaving the AO. Heard some mumblechatter. Had the PAX do a burpee at each speed bump on the way out of the park (2-3; can’t remember) and we continued about .5 mile on the left to First Pentacostal Holiness Church; however, across the street from that was a fence with a sign that YHC, Stabler and Patch had discovered during EC Ruck. the walking sign was upside down and appeared to be instructing us to do BALLS TO THE WALL ! So we did.

  • BTTW – 29 count – each man counted off

Over to the parking lot of the church; Partner up for a DORA 1-2-3; YHC explained DORA to the PAX and listed the exercises:

  • Jump Squats x 100
  • Plank Jacks x 200
  • LBCs x 300

Plank-o-rama for the six; we emphasized the importance of going back for the six. We don’t cross the finish line and wait for the other man to come across the finish line. We go back and cross the finish line with him.

Next we cut the PAX in half. Lined up everyone in individual parking spaces on either side of the parking lot (COVID APPROVED). A PAX member on the end would call out an exercise and then run around the other PAX members in the parking lot, while the PAX performed the exercise. Rinse and repeat until all PAX members have called out an exercise. Various exercises were called out including: Squat Jumps, Freddie Mercuries, Merkins, Side Straddle Hops, World War I sit ups, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Flutter Kicks, Windshield Wipers, and I believe I heard Stabler call out Burpees!

Circled up the PAX for a round of Jack Webb, with ratio of Merkins to Halelujahs 1:4.  We worked our way up to 10 merkins and 40 Halelujahs. After all we had done, this was pretty tough. Bono emphasized to the group that when we are tired, we count LOUDER and in unison. This invigorates the PAX and helps us fight through the pain and focus on the finish. Understanding another purpose of cadence was a valuable lesson for all PAX members.

YHC instructed the PAX to mosey back to Bill Fay Park and the shovel flag at the best pace they can, and return for the six. YHC and Goggles became the six, as we did a flying headlock on a gentleman named Lyndale, a veteran who lives in the neighborhood. He was sitting on his front steps while we ran by so we approached him. Don’t be hesitant to GIVE IT AWAY.

Upon returning to the shovel flag we had time for a little bit of Mary to use up our final 3 minutes.

Moleskin

Had some really good conversation with various PAX at Coffeeteria afterwards. I am really excited about F3 Kinston and to quote Michael Jordan, “The Ceiling is the Roof”. I see a lot of comparisons to F3 Washington in that they have already moved to include Tuesday and Thursday workouts as well. Discussion was had today regarding a Ruck workout, possibly on Fridays. There is already female interest in FIA. There is a strong foundation for some 2nd and 3rd F opportunities among the PAX.

CONTINUE TO HEADLOCK. Make it a point to have everyone follow @F3Kinston and @F3ENC on TWITTER. Follow F3 Kinston on Facebook. Add the SLACK APP to your phones and follow the Kinston channel. All of these things will maximize communication and involvement. Finally, I would encourage each of you to Q a workout…..lead other men. It doesn’t have to be perfect the first time. Most aren’t. But we get outside our comfort zone and get better and better. See yall next week!
