So this weekend started out well for YHC.  The pictures from the USMC Ultimate Mud Run were posted and there were some killer shots of YHC, Mr. Belding, Wimpie, and Cousin IT. While we were competing, one of the things we talked about was that we were all old farts: 55, 42, 41, and 40 were the respective ages – now YHC is 41 as well, so that was an old team.  However, YHC was not watchful, was acting strong, but maybe NOT BEING STRONG.  Running Sunday and Tuesday & then competing Thursday proved too much for an aging body.  On a simple 2 mile “Fun Run” on Saturday with the 2.0s, the groin was pulled – for real.  Instead of grand visions of being the Q of the double down at The Commons and Sacred Sunday, YHC needed to rest his groin and only Q Sacred Sunday.  So the task was set – find a way to have a “Crotchless” beatdown.  Here’s how it went down:

The Warmup – We always open Sacred Sunday with a prayer. Then the Warm up starts.

  • SSH IC x 41 (The Pax was smart and figured out that 41 was a special number today)
  • Imperial Walkers x21; Hillbillies x20
  • Good Mornings & Don Quiotes (maybe)

The Thang – Started with a Triple play of three exercises (a Merkin; Burpee; Squat) rotating through three times with the following reps:

  • Merkins – Wide arm Merkins x 15; Ranger Merkins x 15; Diamond Merkins X11
  • Burpees – Everyone burpees until the Q completes x15; x15, x11 (Q gives warning w/1 more to go, so everyone keeps competing)
  • Squats – Single Leg Rt x 15; Single Leg Lt x 15; both legs x 11

Our only breather was the brief mosey to the Minges Field for some rounds with Tyson (the rep count had to equal 41=10; 10; 10; 11) Instead of planking the first Pax done could choose the exercise to honor those still competing: Burpee, SSH or Squats.

  • WWI
  • Carolina Dry Docks
  • Mule Kicks
  • Side Plank (switch sides each station)
  • Reverse or Jump Squats
  • Shoulder Taps
  • Butt Kickers
  • Dollies
  • Bro Merkins w/partner

Devotional/COT/BOM – The Devotional for today came from the F3 Hartsfield Shirt YHC recently got because Divac got one of our new F3ENC shirts: 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. (That makes a cool shirt).  Prayer request were sent out for Brooke who is a friend of Hot Pursuit; for Splinter’s recovery, those with cancer and connected to them, and for all the mothers in this world that brought us into this world.

Moleskin – Today was about humility. Growing older is a scary thing to do.  At times, we are driven to do things that remind us of our prior youth and vigor. To pretend to be men, yet not act like men. YHC hopes that it is not envy that drives us to do these things, but instead that it’s a drive to live life to the fullest.  The scripture is very telling.  We must “Be Watchful” of each other.  There are brothers among us who have quietly faded back into the fart sack.  Some of them need a brother to watch over and invite them to come back and compete. It was great to talk to Hot Pursuit before the workout and Cold Cut and Lemon Head afterwards.  The 2nd F helps us to be watchful. Sometimes to “Act like Men” requires us to ask for help – to be vulnerable.  In YHC’s case, it was to have the humility to say – “I need someone to Q The Commons”. That was a blow to the ego yesterday, and it was a needed blow. Thankfully Peaches volunteered with no reservations.   Lastly, today is Mother’s Day – it reminds us of those ladies who love us and that no matter what we do in life, it must “be done in love”.
