There once was a Q who cried wolf. This wolf’s name was Pain, and this Q cried all week long on the twitter-machine the wolf was coming. Today, the wolf arrived.  Good thing for this Q there were men who heard the warnings and were ready to confront this wolf head on. With the support of each other, the wolf was conquered and every man survived. This is not an uncommon story for the brothers of F3. Every time the wolf is slayed confidence is built; confidence in one’s own abilities and more importantly confidence in the relationships one has with their F3 brothers. With this confidence and support it makes anything feel possible.

Warm Up

15 Side Straddle Hops

10 Don Quixotes

The Thang

Catch me if you can sandbag carry (5 merkins) around the Town Commons and to the corner of 5th and Cotanch.

Run the hills w/sandbags while partner does burpies – need 50 total burpies – Rinse and Repeat after planking for the 6 and a 10 count.

Catch me if you can sandbag carry (5 merkins) to the parking deck

Now that the warm up was done, the PAX was ready for a friendly competition.

Stage 1

Partner 1 runs to the top of the parking deck and down the stairs while partner 2 does an exercise.

The partner with the most reps wins – best 2 out of 3

Squats, Merkins, WW2 situps

The winning partners move on to stage 2

Winners were: Mr. Belding, Grammar, Aqua Man, Early Bird, Mellow Johnny, YHC (Early Bird and Mellow Johnny tied – MJ graciously let EB move to the next stage when he heard what it was.)

Stage 2

Race from the parking deck to the shovel flags.  Top two finishers move on to the final stage.

PAX not racing had to carry the sandbag back to the shovel flags.

Winners were: YHC and Early Bird (with Grammar giving a strong effort and coming in 3rd)

Stage 3

Early Bird and YHC face off seeing who can hold a low squat position holding a sandbag the longest. (Credit goes to my M for this one.)

The PAX circled around the competitors doing squats and making sure YHC and Early Bird were both squatting low enough.  #asstothegrass

YHC gave it his best but Early Bird was like a statue and seemed unfazed by the fact that he was holding a 20+ pound sandbag in his arms. YHC’s legs were shaking and quivering and he eventually fell to the ground.  Once Early Bird realized he won he dropped his bag and fell down as well.  However, YHC thinks Early Bird could have held on for another minute or two. #EarlyBirdsCrownedChamp

A wise man once told me, “Smack talk is cool. Working out with a brother I respect is cooler.” YHC agrees with this 110%.  And, YHC has been doing a lot of smack talk on twitter over the past two weeks.  The purpose of all this smack talk is twofold,

  1. With hype come increased numbers. YHC has been trying to build the number of PAX who post at #thecommons. In the past, YHC has tried to down play the difficulty of this AO with a #nomanleftbehind message. YHC hoped this would encourage all PAX to try it out.  This strategy did not seem to be paying off.  Therefore, YHC figured it was time to talk a little trash.  Seems to be working. We had a new record last week at 10 PAX and this week we had 9 (minus our regular Cousin IT due to #F3camp).
  2. It helps hold YHC accountable to bringing his best as a Q. When YHC talks trash on Twitter he knows he better back it up. This leads to more planning and what YHC believes is a better workout for all who post.

Smack talk does not come natural for YHC.  You will probably never hear YHC do this in person.  But, on-line YHC has fun with it. As long as it serves the purpose of bringing brothers I respect together to work out YHC will continue. #letthesmacktalkcontinue
