Acts 2:42-47English Standard Version (ESV)

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[a] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Explored the verses in the Bible that described the the fellowship experienced by the believers in the early church.

Contrasted the descriptions of unity and fellowship in the Bible with what we sometimes call fellowship in the church today and noted that true fellowship is a much deeper thing.

Discussed the mission of the early Christ followers and how important it is to have a mission and purpose for life.

Discussed that the church isn’t really a physical address or building, but rather the community of believers, serving one another and living out Christ’s commands – offending each other from time to time, but forgiving and reconciling.  This is to serve as a magnet to draw others to the Lord.

Reflected on the fact that it was never Jesus’ intent for us to follow Him alone.  We aren’t to have our own private relationship with God and forego interact with the rest of the community of faith.  We are to do church together.

Read other verses.  Reflected.  Great discussion and build on the previous topics in the series.
