After a sleepless night of preparation and VQ jitters, YHC headed to Boyd Lee about 40 min before “Showtime” to scout the facilities.  Upon my arrival I noticed Cold-Cut and Spinal Tap putting in some EC, and offering words of encouragement and motivation for my VQ. After scouting the area for ideal routes, and any possible hiccups in my plan, I anxiously awaited for the PAX to arrive in the gloom.

The Thang

Warm Ups:

  • Pledge of Allegiance
  • Side Straddle Hop – 15
  • Good Mornings – 10
  • Don Quixote – 10
  • Arm Circles (Front & Back) – 10

Work Out 1:  INDIAN RUN – 1/2 Mile Run

We started off pretty fast and then slowed down toward the end.  Everyone stayed together and made sure nobody was left behind.

Once we reached the flag it was time mosey on over to the rock pile.

Work Out 2: Rock Pile (3 sets)

  • Curls for the girls – 15 reps (4 ct)
  • Overhead Press – 15 reps (4 ct)
  • Tricep Ext – 15 (4 ct)
  • Goblet Squat – 15 (On Down) – Note to FNGs and newcomers…Read the Exicon.  Do not call it a Goblin Squat.  It is a Goblet Squat.  Otherwise Spinal Tap will quickly correct you and make you pay dearly.  Lessons learned as a VQ. This is where the Exicon would have paid off in my situation.

Back to the Plan..Once we finished each set, we moved over (3) rocks to keep it honest.  After the first set, YHC felt the Tricep 15 rep 4ct may have been too ambitious so we switched to a 10 rep 4 ct.  It was about this time that the perspiration hit, and I knew the preparation was paying off.  Well…That and the groans of several PAX during the 2nd set.

Now put your rocks down…GENTLY…and follow me….to the middle of the softball fields

Work Out 3: Dora “The Destroyer”

  • Merkins (100)/Run
  • Squats (200)/Run
  • LBCs (300)/Run

YHC and PAX arrived at the destination and returned for the six before beginning Workout 3.  We all partnered up pretty quickly and began our workout.  One Pax would do Merkins while the other ran the sidewalk all the way to the track.  After the first run, and overhearing some mumble chatter, it seemed that a run all the way to the track may have been a little over zealous.  After briefly contemplating an audible and shortening the run distance, I promptly thought to myself that decision would “short change” the PAX who came out to get stronger, better, and push themselves.  I will not let that happen and I think we all came out better because of it.  After the first group was done with LBCs, they pitched in and gave the other groups some extra reps to finish and we moved on to the next workout.  At this point I asked for the time and it was 6:09am.

Due to the time constraints, I had to skip the next exercise and move to my Plan B Workout 4.

Follow me to the Wall…

Wokout 4: The Wall

  • People’s Chair
  • Chicken Peckers

Once the PAX arrived at the wall we all lined up to do the People’s Chair.  Each PAX counted to 10 while doing Hallelujahs until everyone was finished.  Now, to Chicken Peckers.  Each PAX did Chicken Peckers, counting to 4 until we got to the end.  By the time that was complete, we had 2 minutes left and moseyed to the flag.  With 1 minute remaining we put a Big Ol Bow on this Q with a quick 10 count set of World War I.  6:15!!
