Straight up, I was intimidated when Foot Loose asked me to Q The Oval Office.  With so many really good runners in that group, I am far from the professional.  But, that’s not what F3 is about.  So, I did not hesitate to say yes.  Google and the Back Blast are your friends.  I learned quite a bit about track workouts doing research.  You can quickly become overwhelmed with the possibilities of what to do which is just weird considering it is all “just left turns” on a track.  Maybe that is the point in Foot Loose asking me to Q, just push yourself and you can learn something that will help you be a better runner overall.

In honor of #TheOvalOffice and our crazy government, I decided to do a warm up that is as backwards as the craziness in our government these days.

Warm up with 800 m run clockwise (right turns) around the track and go back for the 6 at the end.

The Thang:

1st party:  Fartlek….4 laps of race pace the straights and jogging the curves

2nd party:  Ladderish…. more of a step up with a plateau since we don’t really have time to have a 1600m in the middle of this:

  • 400 m fast pace followed by 400 m cool down
  • 800 m fast pace followed by 400 m cool down
  • 800 m fast pace followed by 400 m cool down
  • 400 m fast pace followed by 400 m cool down

Any time left is individual choice run around the track until 6:15

COT:

  • Prayers:  Duff and his family for the loss of Duff’s father, Beverly Hines and the Hines Family (Recount’s M with brain cancer in hospice), in 2 weeks, Belly Dancer finds out if he and many, many other employees have a job with the pending Sun Trust Bank and BB&T merger
  • Announcements:  Dad’s Camp, Gazelle has offered up his family’s mountain house to do some BRR training the weekend after Independence Day

There has not been a time that I have gone to #TheOvalOffice where I did not PR in something.  Whether it is 400m like today or 800m, half mile, 5k and others during previous times, this AO has been good for me.  It has made me do things I have not tried before and pushed me.  When I look at Strava after the morning, that seems to be common among a lot of us in getting Achievements.  Get out of your comfort zone and come to the Oval Office on Fridays, you will be surprised what just some left turns will do for your running!
