Spiritual battles are all around us. We often think about the public battles…religious freedom, prayer in schools, right to life…these are examples of public spiritual battles in modern times. There are also private battles. The fourth lesson of Joshua reminds us what it takes to be victorious in the battle for our faith. A PAX of 19 gathered at the Smurf Hut to read the word and talk it out. The clock struck 1900, the disclaimer was given, and we jumped right in!

Read Joshua 5:13-6:27

This text was about the Battle of Jericho, the first battle God sent the Israelites into after entering the Promised Land. God provided specific instructions for taking Jericho, none of which compared to logical human warfare. The Israelites were victorious, and learned two valuable lessons that day:

  1. Going into spiritual battle requires faith in God and prayer
  2. The victory belongs to God, not us

As a reminder, we always discuss scriptural evidence of the five F3 Leadership characteristics:

  • CANDOR: telling the hard truth.
  • COMMITMENT: unwavering loyalty and determination to both Mission and the well-being of Community.
  • COMPETENCE: the ability to perform Mission-essential Tasks.
  • CONTENTMENT: stability of emotion engendered by the consistent pursuit of joy over happiness.
  • COURAGE: the setting aside of fear to turn hardship into grace.
