15 PAX, to include 3 FNG’s posted at Boyd Lee Park for a game of cards. It was little wet from the rain, but at least it wasn’t cold. I incorporated a deck of cards for the workout. Over the years it has been a good go to when I am struggling to create a workout. I tend to work upper and lower body when using a deck. I didn’t want to blow the allotted time for the workout. With that said, I didn’t want to create a random workout without really having a good grasp of how long it would take to complete. This way, I was familiar enough with the workout that I was confident we could complete it.  I figured by using the cards, I could push the group without over doing it in a timely manor. In addition, we did a tad bit of running to simply keep the group moving in between exercises. We maxed our time, but finished the workout strong. Here is the breakdown.

Warm up: 10 Side Straddle Hops and stretch on your own while the Q explained the series of events.

The workout:

Each suit within the deck is assigned an exercise: Hearts- Push ups; Diamonds- Sit ups; Spades- Squat Jumpers; Clubs- Lunges. The cards were sorted so that each suit/exercise would be performed on a 4 card rotation.

Each number card or face card drawn dictates the number of reps for that will be performed. Any card drawn less than 5, is an automatic 5 reps. Jack is 11 reps. Queen is 12 reps. King is 13 reps. Ace is 14 reps.

Following each 4 card rotation, the group ran to a different location to conduct the next set of exercises. Boyd Lee Park has a circle side walk around the facility. There is a “T” side walk connecting within the circle side walk. At each location where the “T” and circle connect is where the exercise were conducted.

The Joker card was utilized…. Once the first of two Joker cards were revealed, the group had to run around the entire circle, as opposed to quarter distances, before conducting the next rotation of exercises. The second joker was 14 Burpees to end the workout

Total Reps Combined: 454

Total distance: Who cares. We worked hard and I am confident we all benefited from the workout.
