Pick up your Six

Yesterday the Sasquatch was conquered by 100+ men. Bodies, minds, and spirits were tested and the men of F3 came out victorious. Some gave to the point of near total exhaustion, others gave to the point of spilling merlot (Blue Gatorade), but with the support of our brothers we were still standing at the end, and a select few were ready to pick their six up and run again the following day at #thecommons!

Pick up Six- Run down the Greenway at a comfortable pace turning back to get the six every time your watch hits a mile. Don’t leave the six alone, rotate who spends time running beside him. I have learned this strategy is an essential piece to a run centric workout. It is the best way to allow a long run and make sure no one is left behind while also not preventing the more experienced runners from getting their miles in. In addition to this, it lets the six receive encouragement and words of wisdom from a variety of PAX.

As a group we were trying to make it to 5th Street but had to cut it short due to time. On the way back, Mailman had to push hard. All the PAX came back and ran behind him as he stepped up the pace to get to the #shovelflag just after 7:00. Great support from the PAX and strong effort by Mailman, way to get a personal record for distance (4 miles).

Two weeks prior to the Sasquatch I asked Strokes if I could Q today. I wanted to make sure I was a hard commit to posting because I knew the draw of the fartsack would be extra strong the morning after ENC’s homegrown CSAUP event. I put the challenge to post out to all the men of F3ENC but specifically to the men running in the BRR. The members of the BRR teams will face running 4-6 legs in less than a 30-hour period. Learning to run on tired legs will be essential to being successful and being able to enjoy the race. For those who ran the Sasquatch, this was a perfect opportunity to do just that, run on tired legs. Even with that being said, I was not expecting a large turnout. In the past years following the Sasquatch the numbers at the Commons have been extremely low (probably under 4). Imagine my surprise when I pull up to see a double-digit number of PAX ready to go. Being the original site-Q for the Commons, this site is extra special to me. It makes my heart proud to see so many of my F3 brothers embracing this site and learning to run longer distances. Way to go men!
