When surrounded by friends, men you rely on in the COT, it can be easy to just dream and hope for our future. Not today. Today was the Saturday before the school year starts.  It’s a Saturday full of feelings – some 2.0s are excited, most are scared, others are overwhelmed.  Most parents are happy that our munchkins are in school & out of the house. It was decided last week that our monthly Ultimate Football game would be this week because school was starting.  It turned out that instead of going to school, the school of life played out early this Saturday morning. Our 2.0s are always watching, how we lead, how we play, and in the case of the “Rambos” how we don’t quite win. 34 Dads and 2.0s packed into the fields of Boyd Lee to engage in a game of Ultimate. Here’s how it went down.

Warm-up: After the field was set, we completed the following exercises: SSH, High Knees, Butt Kickers, Slow Merkins (Regular, Wide, Ranger). We were supposed to find a partner of similar size and form two lines with one partner in each line.  The directions were not clear until Joker explained it “Bruiser” style.  Then everyone figured it out – almost.  The “Other” team ended up with 19 players compared to the 15 of the Rambos. Math is not our forte.

The Thang: Here’s how the game broke down – Who scored and what the exercise was

  • The Others – Burbees
  • The Others – Burpees (notice a trend)
  • Rambos – Flutter Kicks
  • The Others – Burpees (the trend is official)
  • The Others – Burpees (This one included a pass from a 2.0 to one old fart, to Dewey, who dropped it, and Goose came out of nowhere to catch it before hitting the ground)
  • The Others – Burpees – String Beam had an epic equipment failure, when he literally ran out of the bottom of his cleat – Shrimp passed it to Wimpie for the score
  • The Others – Burpees (Actually, I’m not sure about the burpees for the last few scores, but it’s in the spirit
  • Rambos – Burpees (we ignored Cousin IT as he complained about burpee form)
  • Rambos – Burpees – Joker hit Noah to bring it home
  • The Others – Carolina Dry Docks – Wimpie decided that the out of bounds in the end zone moved to always include him
  • Rambos – Hand Release Merkins – The small ball passes started to work for this outnumbered band of brothers and sisters
  • The Others – Donkey Kicks
  • Rambos – Mule Kick Burpees – Parrot brought home the game winning score just as time expired.

COT/BOM – School starts Monday, so pray for 2.0s and teachers. Amy Johnson (Splinter’s Friend) had her last radiation treatment. Steamy and upcoming surgery. Papa Smurf. Spunky (String Bean’s 2.1) is the Q for FiA today. Men struggling with health and life.

Announcements – Lunch on Tuesday @ Great  Harvest. Adopt a Highway will be Sat 9/24. Sign up for the Coop Strong race by 8/31. Watch Twitter for a possible Happy Hour at Tapped.

Moleskin – It was amazing to watch Spin Cycle, Goose, and Spinal Tap play today.  All three can bench press YHC with one hand, while having hands as soft as…well, they can catch.  Goose is a fortified brick house. Dewey is still lightening fast. Our 2.0s played hard. Including them in each possession was a neat change. The grass was soft and freshly cut, so be sure to vacuum the house. Coffeteria afterwards was a lot of fun. We hung out for almost an hr as the 2.0s played in the play ground and dads talked, and talked and talked. This is the glue that makes F3 what it is.
