Today was about determination, ensuring that each man felt pushed and that no man was left behind.  I Q’d this workout almost a year ago with about a dozen PAX and recall that it deserved to be pulled from the archives and dusted off (I had forgotten how much this workout sucked).  YHC arrived at Elm St. Park about 5:15 and shortly thereafter, Harry Potter, Abu and others began rolling in.  By 5:25a dozen PAX were already on-hand with a total count of 28 when the clock struck 0530.  At that, we circled up, had a short disclaimer about the workout and a longer disclaimer about being our Brother’s Keeper and being alert while crossing the streets, engaging traffic, etc.  It went down like this….

WARMUP

  • 20 SSH IC

THANG

  • Run from Elm St. Park to College Hill near the pullup bars going down the path through the woods.  Sugar Rays ran down 10th St to get more distance.  First PAX there leads Plank-o-Rama.
  • When all PAX arrive, partner up with someone of similar speed and gather at crosswalk across from the pullup bars.  PAX 1 begins running backwards up College Hill while PAX 2 does 10 deep squats then sprints to catch PAX 1.  PAX 1 does 10 deep squats while PAX 2 continues running backwards, flapjacking up the hill to the curb.  Plank for the six.
  • Mosey back down to crosswalk at the bottom of the hill and rinse and repeat above routine with 3 lunges each leg.
  • Clydesdales mosey down College Hill, down 10th St over to Haz Research Bldg where the stairs are located (Brewster, if you’re an ECU alum, which I’m not, which was obvious when I was trying to explain the location).  Sugar Rays run down 14th to Rock Springs Road, up to 10th, over to the stairs.  First PAX there conducts plank-o-rama (my poor directions led to some PAX being at the wrong stairs, and a quick holler they fell in with the rest of us as I weaved my way between the buildings looking for those damn stairs.  Where are they?  #mumblechatter was ensuing, but we got there)
  • Partners separate into 2 groups.  Group 1 runs one set of stairs behind Brewster and Group 2 runs the opposite set of stairs.  If the six is still on the stairs when first PAX come off stairs, they run back up to meet the six and run him back down.  When six reaches bottom, Group runs out to courtyard to meet the other Group
  • 14 PAX on one set of stairs was crowded, so we split the two groups again so that there were 4 groups, each running one of the four sets of stairs at Brewster.  Repeat the drill, running to the top and back down, then back for the six.  Groups switch stairs and repeat again.
  • Lineup along the wall between the stairs for People’s Chair while each PAX conducts a 5-count.  This went as expected.  Tonka would have been pleased with Matlock’s lonnnng, slooooow, 5-count.
  • Mosey to the parking lot at the bottom of College Hill.  Group 1 and Group 2 relay race between the 1st and 3rd lines in the parking lot.  PAX that are waiting in line are doing squats.  This turned out to be “hype” as Alfred the Butler put it.  28 men were loud, yelling, rooting and cheering for their teammates, and each man gave it all he had.  Truth be told, some of you guys had “crazy eyes” (P. Doc, String Bean)…..those boys were in the ZONE giving it everything they had, all I can say is that if you see that crazy in their eyes, you better RUN FAST in the opposite direction!  The last leg came down to Butterworth and YHC and it was neck-in-neck the entire race.  Butterworth is a “sleeper” and a strong contender….you wouldn’t know it from his quiet disposition, but he knows how to get the job done and made his team proud as he clenched the victory in a photo-finish!
  • Mosey back to flags via path through woods
  • Circle up for Boxcutters IC, X’s & O’s (Hotspot), American Hammers (Grammar), Flutterkicks (The Closed Hand), WWI (Wimpie)

COT

  • Hotspot’s friend Jimmy – praying for him coming to Christ
