Today was a competition set up by String Bean to see if the Runners or Ruckers could bring out the most pax. What String didn’t realize is that the Ruckers went hard yesterday with a 4 hr event training for GrowRuck. Still Ruckers are used to doing the difficult thing and low and behold 28 studs showed up for the competition. The Rivalry was set.

YHC hates horror movies. Frankly, it’s just not fun to jump and scream like a little teenager. Today, we simply found the hills around down town Greenville. It reminded YHC that “these Eyes have Hills”. However that is not the name of that scary movie. Still, it went something like this for the Ruckers:

  • Rucked from 1st to Summit, to Jarvis, to Woodlawn, to Rotary, to Harding. Somewhere down those paths we crossed the home of the crazy cat lady. It was like some kind of Stephen King movie and reeked of cat urine.
  • Then we moseyed back to the 2nd St dead end hill because it’s steep and difficult.
  • Then we went down 3rd to the Parking Deck to run up the steps and down the ramp, just because. Footloose informed YHC that the 3rd street hill is the same distance and grade as College Hill. Today was the first day YHC noticed.
  • Then Skipper led us down 4th to Greene back to Town Commons for some back and forth hills on the paths. The trick is to keep the pace up and simply go up and down those hills.

We met the runners back at the appointed hour and smashed them with our ruck plates because they have LRA (little runner arms) and are unable to defend themselves. They sometimes remind me of skinny T-Rex’s.

The runners…ran. That’s all Footloose texted to include. What happened is they tried to circle the ruckers and harass us but got scared when we looked them in the eye  and snarled. I actually heard Gazelle whimper like a puppy.

COT/BOM – T-Bones family. Lots of Kotters coming back out. Friend/neighbor of Tonka who fell again – Billy’s wife. Brass Monkeys friends daughter.

Announcements – plan on supporting Rifiki in the porch rebuilding in Ayden on March 20th in Ayden.

Naked Man Moleskin – Today reminded me that sometimes a man needs a rival to step up, to get out of bed. Not an enemy, but a rival. Someone he respects. Someone who reveals his weaknesses. Someone who makes him want to constantly improve. Simon Sinek talks about this in his book The Infinite Game.

Ruckers and Runners are rivals. One goes slower, heavier, and longer. One goes faster, lighter, and shorter (except when it relates to their shorts). Of all the runners, YHC respects, Footloose is the one for me. He’s fast, he’s disciplined, he’s humble, and he’s willing to look me in the eye and say, “if you want to get faster Bono, you have to run more.”

A rival is also someone you love to watch. It’s out of respect. You also step up your game. You get better. Today, the Ruckers won the 1st ever Clash of the Comz competition. However, the runners didn’t cower at the strength and power of the Ruckers. Instead they called out how much they would crush the Ruckers in the summer…we shall see.
