I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member,” is a favorite quote of mine from that great philosopher, Groucho Marx. F3 lowered the standards in November when they let YHC join. YHC was proud to lower the standards at BLP today for my VQ, after multiple requests from Spinal Tap to give him a Friday off. This reminded me of another quote, this time from Jerry Garcia: “Somebody has to do something. It’s just incredibly pathetic if it has to be us.” Today, it was me.

YHC promised the PAX in attendance that Friday the 13th would be their lucky day – no burpees, no bear crawls and no balls to the wall. Having excluded those thrills from the workout, YHC reflected upon the fond memories from Qs past in planning our outing. It was a short list. After surprising everyone with the news that YHC is not a professional, we were off and running in celebration of Friday the 13th.

Warmup:

  • SSH (13)
  • Good Mornings (13)
  • Merkins (13)
  • Weezy Jeffersons – YHC’s new favorite (13)

The Thang:

Next up was a multi-directional Indian run, as we split the group in half for a lap around the track. After a quick 13 count to recover, we moseyed to the rock pile for sets of:

  • Curls (13)
  • Rows (13)
  • Triceps extensions (13)
  • Hallelujahs (13)
  • Trade rocks, rinse and repeat

We took a little fun run to the picnic shelter, the long way, counted to 13, then completed two sets each of:

  • Dips (13)
  • Super step ups (13)

We reversed course for another self-paced jog, the long way, back to the flag (starting to feel like Tuesday at Elm St.), then enjoyed some Mary from the PAX. In honor of Spinal Tap, and YHC’s hamstring, we did some sprints and lunges betwixt the light poles, interspersed with squats. We circled up for a little more Mary before calling it a morning. YHC does not recall all the various sets of Mary performed. Shrimp, Bono, Abu, Coach K, String Bean and Charlie Brown (maybe others?) all contributed to our exhaustion with Merkins, American Hammers, Slinkies, Gravediggers and other frivolity.

Prayers:

Papa Smurf, Gamecock (home from Vidant, still recovering), Crack Corn, Steamy (present today), G-String (sparkler burn), Kingpin’s wife’s nephew, Bryant Ward.

Announcements:

  • FNG, Jay Hide joined us. He’s a wine peddler and was thusly dubbed Thunderbird.
  • No BLP on Monday. Convergence at the Stadium at 5:30 instead for MLK Day. Grammar and Belding will Q. Need more than 40 to show up.
  • Saturday workout at 6:30 with extra credit Ruck starting at 5 am. Reverse Oreo Q with Bono, Belding and Cousin IT.
  • Grow Ruck weekend of March 10. Questions: see T-Bone or Bono

Moleskin:

YHC’s first Q was a lot of fun, at least for YHC. If you have not Q’d, I recommend it. You might find that you have more energy and stamina when leading. That was the case for me. It was great to see some good friends who don’t frequent BLP. Hope they make it back regularly. Thanks to all those who have Q’d my workouts, as I drew from their examples and appreciate their leadership. This inspires a final quote from Coach Phil Jackson, to bring this bb to a close: “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.”

Wilson out.
